It's nice getting another point of view.

Quite literally from another place and time, Britain in the 1970s. Rumours were floating about of right wingers who were arming up should there be a full fledged swing to Socialism. Rumours about assassinating Tony Benn because he was too socialist. And I mean real socialism, not the bullshit accusations being tossed about by the loonie right in the US about "Barack Hoosain Obama"!

Anyway, here is something from 1970s British Sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin which might cause some feelings of deja vu.

Those who fail to learn history's lessons are doomed to repeat them.

    1. Are you saying that you don't? Get on with it, man, get on with it!

  2. That is one beautiful Smelly.

This brings up a thought about the characters presented in television and movies in Britain and America. The British seem to favor un-heroes--little fellows who are witty in the face of adversity, but ultimately fail. Americans like heroes and anti-heroes--people who fight for the right or who tear down stupidity or injustice. There are exceptions, of course, but that strikes me as a general trend.

  3. Oh, goody - can we start tearing down the stupidity and injustice of shall issue, assault style weapons being legal, and all of the other factors which are clearly part of our mass shooting epidemics?

    1. What injustice, Dog Gone? You aren't even talking about this video, I see, since a SMLE is not an "assault style weapon."

But do tell us: Do you believe that a person who intends to commit mass murder will wait around until he's issued his carry license? And you say that I have problems with critical thinking.

I know that you'll say it again, but note that I address your specific points, rather than make vague and unsubstantiated remarks in passing.

  4. It's interesting that Laci posted this. If I were looking for an actor to play Laci, Geoffrey Palmer would be high on my list, followed by Frank Thornton. Both are good at playing stodgy, pompous twits who wish the world would recognize their own supposed superiority.
