Republicans Will 'Have A Lot Of People To Answer To' If They Don't Support Gun Control

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) thinks Senate Republicans are lying when they say they don't support a new gun legislation.

After all, he said, pointing to a recent Public Policy Polling survey, even a plurality of Georgia voters support a ban on assault-style weapons.

So if certain gun control legislation comes up for a vote in the Senate this week, Murphy expects some Republicans to shift their positions, especially on a universal background check measure that polls consistently show has the support of more than nine in 10 Americans.

"Otherwise, they're going to have a lot of people to answer to," Murphy said here at an event where President Barack Obama delivered forceful remarks on the legislation he is urging Congress to pass.

  1. Wow! A plurality! Which is less than a majority.

Depending on the margin of error, that 49/44 split may shrink. Also, you have the 7% with no opinion--folks who aren't going to support someone based solely on their voting for your ban.

Sorry, but those numbers don't tell us which side will win--the sides seem evenly balanced at first glance, but if you look at the dropping enthusiasm for gun bans...

Not lookin' too good for your side sparky. The 44% are involved and invested; your 49% was emotionally moved, but has since moved on.

An assault weapon for Ralphie! Mike, Laci, et al. Look on and despair!

Is there any nectar sweeter than the tears born of the despair and rage of gun banners?

  3. Since the only people demanding "answers" would be those unworthy of a single shred of respect, I can't imagine why anyone would be concerned.

    Hell with 'em.

  4. Anyone who votes in favor of gun control will have a lot to answer for as well. The nation is dividing up. We went through this a hundred fifty years ago, and if you control freaks keep pushing, we'll have to go through it again.

This time, you may have the population numbers on your side, but most of those people are from the big cities and have never fired a gun in their lives. Remember that when you take the field against forty or so states of armed rednecks.
