Better Family Home

Tasers can save your life. They will incapacitate any assailant without actually harming them in the long run. You and your family will feel safe and secure even if you’re out after dark.
In most states, you’re able to carry a taser without needing permission. They can be a great alternative if you don’t want to have firearms in the house.
This was the 14th of 15 items considered important for family protection.

  1. Where are all the Taser accidents, you ask? Right here:

    1. Wow. I've been so busy looking at gun related sites, I never thought of tasers.

  2. You mean these deaths Mike? Though they weren't really accidents, just unintentional. Not surprising that running a few thousand volts through a person, who's life systems are controlled by, you guessed it, electrical impulses, every so often, a person wont reboot properly.

"According to data collected by Amnesty International, at least 500 people in the United States have died since 2001 after being shocked with Tasers either during their arrest or while in jail. Amnesty International recorded the largest number of deaths following the use of Tasers in California (92), followed by Florida (65), and Texas (37). The Oklahoma City Police Department led all law enforcement agencies in deaths (7) following by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Harris County Sheriff’s (Tx), Phoenix, Az and San Jose, Ca., all with six deaths."

    1. Yeah, but still significant. Maybe we need to include tasers as well as air-soft and bb guns on our list of weapons that need to be controlled better.

    2. Don't get me wrong, a Taser is a tool that can be useful for defense. But a person shouldn't be limited to a single choice when deciding on personal protection.
Since I imagine most of these deaths were in the course of police contact, most were being used to get the person to "come along quietly". Not in what could be considered a true self defense situation.
Tasers also have some definite limitations since thick clothing can make them ineffective. Something that can be an issue up my way in the great white north.

    3. My thought was to use less deadly methods and still control bad guys, while eliminating some of the unintentional deaths attributed to guns.

    4. Simple thought, again. Just how would you implement such a thought? Especially the one on "controlling the bad guys".

  4. "BOSTON — Gun rights advocates are seeking support on Beacon Hill to legalize stun guns, following a ruling by the state's highest court that upholds a ban on the non-lethal weapons.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Judicial Court ruled against a woman, Jaime Caetano, who was arrested with a stun gun in 2011. She told police she needed it for self-defense against an abusive ex-boyfriend.
The court ruled that Caetano could have applied for a gun permit or bought pepper spray, both of which are legal, but that stun guns are a “modern invention" not protected by the Second Amendment. Legalizing stun gun ownership, the court said, is a matter for the Legislature.
Jim Wallace, executive director of the Gun Owners Action League, the Massachusetts affiliate of the National Rifle Association, said he's drafting legislation to allow citizens to own stun guns."

"Massachusetts is one of five states that outright ban private ownership of stun guns or Tasers"
