It's Not The Guns
Bill Whittle, with his usual condescending sarcasm, explains why the US murder rate is acceptable. He conveniently overlooks the fact that not a one of the countries listed with a higher murder rate than ours is what we call a 1st World Country. Inadvertently, he showed us where those countries are on the list when he put the US below Switzerland, Germany and the others, pretending that we have the same rate as Plano TX. Interestingly, when selecting pro-gun central, he didn't choose New Orleans or Baton Rouge.
Typical flim-flam bullshit from the gun-rights right.

Maybe Bill's point is that if you guys have to make massive wholesale exclusions of countries when comparing murder rates because of their socioeconomic conditions- that maybe, just maybe socioeconomics is the real reason behind murder rates and not gun rights.
ReplyDeleteI know what you're thinking. "Gun availability is just one of the factors". Even still, it's such a tiny factor by comparison, that necessitates their complete exclusion. And we can look across state data (which still has varying socioeconomics though not nearly as much across the countries of the world) and see no difference in murder rates vs. gun laws. Using your rules, why can't we just write off New Orleans for being a "shithole" they way you write off Mexico, Honduras, and 108 other countries?
Comparing the US to countries like The Ivory Coast is apples and oranges. Comparing the US to Switzerland makes sense.
DeleteNew Orleans is not the same kind of shithole. It's subject the the rules of law just like all the other US cities. One of its major problems is gun availability.
One of its major problems is gun availability.
DeleteA "problem" to which Vermont (for example) seems oddly immune. Puzzling.
New Orleans is a "shithole" compared to Boston, but you happily make comparisons disregarding different socioeconomic conditions as long as it suits you. New Orleans’ murder rate is similar to the Ivory Coast, but one you dismiss. And have you been to Detroit lately? It might very well be more run down that Abidjan.
DeleteAng you guys love to compare cities to states, or cities to countries, as convenient.
Deletebiased lying gun nuts
ReplyDeleteWaiting for an example of a false statement by Mr. Whittle in that video. One, just one example. I suspect I'll be waiting a very long time.
You're right, no lies in that video, just a false comparison and bogus conclusion.
DeleteYou're right, no lies in that video . . .
DeleteWhich would appear to make the tag (bold emphasis mine), "biased lying gun nuts" a lie on your part, would it not?
Yes, yes I believe it would.
Who said the tag was aimed at th video? I sometimes apply them to the commenters like you.
