The third injured person was one of the store’s owners, a 44-year-old man, who later died at a hospital, Maj. Dan Tennis, of the Shawnee Police Department said.

  1. I wonder if they thought the place would be easy because it caters to women. I certainly looks like they found out differently. It looks like an interesting business, and like many gun stores, helps the prospective gun owner make good decisions,

"So it’s a bit of a surprise when Bieker, who owns She’s A Pistol LLC in downtown Shawnee, cautions that gun ownership isn’t for everyone. She gives that advice to her customers on a regular basis, she says.
“A handgun is not the right answer every time.”

"That’s where Bieker and her team of experts and trainers step in, offering a brand of one-on-one, non-judgmental guidance that isn’t available at male-dominated, big-box stores. They council newcomers on the pros and cons of personal weapons, often steering them instead toward non-lethal options like pepper-spray or Tasers."

    1. I wouldn't think they chose this place because of the female owner, but rather that it was small. They probably figured that three armed bad guys could overpower the one or two employees that would be there. Like you said, they figured wrong.

Is that some kind of a female only business position? Sounds like a customer orientated, profit making business plan to me.

I doubt that they deny business from men, but its main focus is serving female customers. The problem with the larger stores, IMHO is that they tend to cater to people who already know what they want and why, so they sell things. The people who work there will be salespeople and not necessarily be very knowledgeable in firearms.
I personally prefer store that have people who know their product. That knowledge enables them to make good recommendations. As is happening at this store.

    4. I'm not saying it's just a female business plan, or they deny business from men. I wonder why male owned stores don't offer the same non-lethal advise.

That's a rare statement from a gun shop owner, which only shows real common sense is missing from the business.

  2. I just thought I'd throw in an update on this event,

"Just weeks after her husband Jon was killed in a shootout defending her from four armed robbers at their gun store in Shawnee, Kansas, Rebecca Beiker is restarting self-defense classes offered through their gun store."

"Mrs. Bieker had previously made a statement via the store’s Facebook page about the shooting and the tragic loss of her husband, and says that she wouldn’t be alive if Jon didn’t have a gun to fight back against criminals.
Thank you to my friends, family, and community for their love, prayers, and support during this very difficult time. I have lost my husband in this senseless murder. Although tragic, he saved my life because he carried a firearm. Guns are not evil. I would not be able to make this statement if private citizens such as Jon and I were banned from owning them…
Jon Biekert was able to put rounds into three of the four criminals that had ambushed his wife. Three are facing first degree murder charges in his death. The fourth, who had to be placed into a medically induced coma to be treated for his injuries, has not yet been charged.
He will also face murder charges if he survives.
Rebecca Bieker is determined to use this tragic experience to learn to train others to survive and persevere through the worst that life can throw at them.
    She is indeed a pistol."
