Freak Out Nation

Memphis, Tennessee Police say that no one was hurt when a loaded gun fell out of a man’s pants pocket in a movie theater and fired. According to police,  63-year-old George Gholson was arrested and charged Tuesday with reckless endangerment and failing to follow a posted “no-weapons” notice.

News Channel 5 reports, ” Police said Gholson took a .38-caliber, two-shot Derringer into a movie theater in east Memphis. The gun, which was loaded with one bullet, fell out of his pants pocket and fired the round.”

The 18 people in the theater were not hit, police say. An off-duty police officer who was in the theater at the time took Gholson into custody.

Tennessee Lawful Gun Owner Gets Drunk and Shoots at the Wife and Kids

Rogersville man charged after allegedly firing pistol during domestic dispute
Miguel Angel Salinas

Local news reports (via Southern Beale)

A Rogersville man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly firing a handgun in the proximity of his wife and three children during an alcohol-fueled argument.
Around 3:37 a.m. Saturday, Hawkins County Sheriff's Office Deputy Gary Lawson was dispatched to 312 Arrow Head Drive in Rogersville on a complaint of a domestic dispute involving a firearm.
Upon his arrival, Lawson reportedly observed a woman and three female children running from the residence screaming.
Through her daughter Mrs. Salinas stated that her husband, Miguel Angel Salinas, 31, of that address, had been drinking that night and started arguing with her.
"Then he pulled a pistol out and pointed it at her, and told her he would kill her," Lawson stated in his report. "Griselda stated they went outside where he fired one shot into the air. Griselda said she went back into the residence, where Miguel then fired the weapon inside the residence close to where she was standing."
Mr. Salinas turned over the Beretta .25-caliber handgun, which was hidden in a couch cushion.
The pistol had a spent shell casing stuck in the chamber, and Lawson reported observing that the barrel of the pistol was still warm to the touch.
Salinas was charged with aggravated assault.

Southern Beale's Irresponsible Gun Owners of the Week

Southern Beale

• April 9, 2014:1- A drunken Kingsport man was handling his 12-guage late at night when it accidentally fired, sending shots into his elderly neighbors’ house.
• April 13, 2014:A Chattanooga man thought he was “dry-firing” his 9mm Glock but — woopsies! — there was a bullet in the chamber. The gun fired through his living room window and took out a neighbor’s car tire.
Is there any reasonable person who doesn't agree that people like these two are unfit to own guns? Guys like these don't show up on anyone's statistics or on any surveys, at least not yet. It is my contention that misbehavior like this almost always precedes the tragedies that do show up on the statistics and surveys.
One strike you're out is the solution.

Tennessee Senate Approves Open Carry

The state Senate has passed a bill to allow Tennesseans to openly carry guns without a state-issued permit.
The chamber voted 25-2 in favor of the bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Mae Beavers of Mt. Juliet.
Beavers said the measure would keep the background checks and training requirements in order to carry concealed firearms, but would allow anyone legally allowed to own a gun to carry it openly.
The bill would also remove state restrictions on the location of ammunition when firearms are being transported in vehicles, and would allow guns to be removed from cars on school property for the purposes of moving storing them in another part of the vehicle.
The companion bill is awaiting a vote in the budget subcommittee of the House Finance Committee.
This is an example of the gun-rights fanatics shooting themselves in the foot.  Open carry is counter-productive to their cause.  Proponents say it'll make guns more commonplace and acceptable but it works in exactly the opposite way. People who don't own guns and even reasonable gun owners see open carriers as the extremists and fanatics that they are. Ironically, open carry helps the gun control movement.
