More on the Nasty, Nazi-like, Nevada Gun Nuts

The ONLY thing a 'good guy with a gun' stopped was a bullet, one of the concealed carry guys in Walmart -- where there are so many, many gun incidents even without the right wing white supremacist gun nuts.

They seem a tidge unclear about white supremacists and neo-nazis.

From the Huff Po:

Las Vegas Shooting Suspects Amanda Miller, Jerad Miller Equated Government 'With Nazis'

Police in Nevada have identified the two shooters -- responsible for the deadly weekend killings of three people, including two police officers -- as a husband and wife named Amanda Miller and Jerad Miller.

"We believe that it was a random act," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a Monday press conference.

"[We have] no doubt the suspects [had] some apparent ideology along the lines of militia and white supremacists," McMahill added. "We believe that they equated government ... with Nazis."

According to McMahill, Jared Miller, 31, and his wife Amanda Miller, 22, shot and killed Las Vegas police officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, and a civilian identified as Robert Wilcox, during their shooting spree.

Beck, 41, was a married father of three who had been with the department since 2001. Soldo, 31, had been with the department since 2006. He is survived by a wife and baby, police said. Wilcox was a resident of Las Vegas.

In addition to identifying the suspects, McMahill released new details about the shootings, which began late Sunday morning while Beck and Soldo were having lunch at CiCi's Pizza restaurant.

"Jared Miller pulled a handgun out and shot officer Soldo one time in the back of the head," McMahill said. "Officer Beck immediately began to react ... [but] was shot once in the throat area. Amanda Miller [then] removed a handgun from her purse and both Jared and Amanda fired multiple shots into officer Beck."

After shooting the officers, police say the suspects pulled the men out of the booth and laid them on the floor. They then placed a flag – a yellow banner with a coiled snake above the words, "Don't tread on Me" – on top of Beck, along with a swastika. On Soldo, the two placed a note, police said, that read, "This is the start of the revolution."

After the shooting, police say the couple took the officers handguns and ammunition and fled across the street to a nearby Walmart. There, police say, Jared Miller fired off one round and told everyone to get out of the store. At some point he allegedly yelled, "This is a revolution."

According to police, Walmart shopper Robert Wilcox, 31, was carrying a concealed weapon and confronted Jared Miller. Wilcox was apparently unaware of Amanda Miller and when he walked by her to confront her husband, she shot him in the rib area.

A shootout with pursuing officers ensued, during which Amanda Miller "took her handgun and fired several rounds into Jared," McMahill said. "At that point Amanda took her handgun and ended her life with one gunshot to the head."

Misty Cook, Wade's Girlfriend Arrested

Misty Cook is blonde, rosy cheeked and pretty, but the sweet-looking mother of one is also the ex-girlfriend of Wade Michael Page, the gunman who brutally killed six Sikh worshipers in Milwaukee temple on Sunday.  Although police say Cook is not a suspect in the shootings, they were worried enough about her connections to Page this weekend that they went to the restaurant where she worked and, after searching her apartment, arrested her on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

In addition to Misty Cook’s felony rap sheet, she is also one of thousands of women in the United States who are a part of or support white supremacist organizations, according to the Anti-Defamation League. Misty supported Skinhead groups, including the white power groups that Wade Page followed and the ex-couple had in common.   One of those groups, the Hammerskins, pledges to live by the 14 words:  “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White Children.”

It’s easy to assume that only men like Page are a part of a dark and secretive culture that espouses violence and hate against minorities in our country and sometimes even acts on it.  But the ADL estimates that between 30 percent and 40 percent of the roughly 100,000 people who support white supremacist group are women.
Maybe this guy was right after all. What do you think?

Kevin William Harpham - MLK Parade Bomber

via Chris Brown

David Hothouse over at Media Matters wrote a wonderful article fleshing out the story of the Spokane white supremacist who was arrested the other day.  It turns out our own Jadegold was right on top of the story when it broke.  Here are some more details.

Harpham wrote about lone wolf violence in response to an August 2009 article in USA Today that reported, "Federal authorities have launched an effort to detect lone attackers who may be contemplating politically charged assaults." Harpham wrote: "A lone Wolf would be hard pressed to compete with the level of destruction the jew bankers are doing to the country right now."
What's your opinion? It seems there are quite a few of these "hate groups." I think it's safe to say their members all like guns and in some cases are heavily armed. When you total them up, you're probably going to have a much bigger number than all the gun bloggers who keep telling us how responsible and trustworthy gunowners are. What do you make of that?

Trouble in the Nevada State Prison System

Many prisons throughout the country are famous for being dangerous, violent places, Newark, Huntsville, San Quentin, to name a few. But this is the first glimpse I've had into the frightening world of Nevada State Prisons.

The Las Vegas Sun reported a couple months ago on the dramatic situation of the leader of the Aryan Warriors.

Daniel Joseph Egan, also known as "Dano," was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kent J. Dawson to over 16 years in prison for ordering violent prison assaults of two men in order to enhance his position in the gang, U.S. Attorney Greg Brower of Nevada said.
Egan admitted he'd stabbed another inmate in order to join the Aryan Warriors. He then rose to lead the movement from within the prison.

Today the Las Vegas Sun reports on the sentencing of Kory Allen Crossman, who goes by the nickname “Lobes.” He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kent J. Dawson to 140 months in prison and five years of supervised release.

In August 2005, investigators said Crossman sold 3 ounces of meth to an undercover informant for $2,200. The next month he sold 7 ounces of meth to the same undercover informant for $3,900.
Crossman had come in contact with the gang in prison while serving time between 2001 and 2005. Upon his release he became the gang's manufacturer and supplier of methamphetamine.

Authorities said members of the Aryan Warriors gang, made up of white men, distribute narcotics, extort money from people through threats and violence, run illegal gambling operations and assault other inmates. The organization, which operates in Las Vegas and elsewhere in the state, wants to control the Nevada prison system.

Wikipedia offers a pretty interesting article on the etymology of the word Aryan.

To me these seem like fairly heavy sentences. I'm sure that will come as no surprise to anyone. What I mean is, if for selling drugs and for doing violence in prison we're already talking about time like this, 11 years and 16 years, no wonder we hand out life sentences so easily. And, is there any possibility at all that a guy like Crossman will improve during his long incarceration? There's got to be a better way, don't you think?

And what is it with these white supremacists and methamphetamine? Is that something unique to them or is everyone into that drug these days? I'm afraid I'm definitely out of that loop, and glad of it.

Is There Fear of a Black President?

The Mother Jones site ran a very interesting story yesterday written by James Ridgeway about the reaction some white folks are having to the ever-increasing prospect of a black president.

The prospect of an African American president is bringing the nation's white supremacists out of the shadows—and, along with them, some subtler versions of racialist populism. Both hearken back to another economically and socially turbulent time in the United States, in the early 1980s.

On the official David Duke website, the election of Barack Obama is referred to as a "wakeup call." Is that some kind of code word that the true extremists recognize? It's a frightening prospect to think that there may be a powder keg of of racial hatred just waiting to be ignited.

On Huffington Post, the article called Five Reasons Why the Obama Infomercial was Worth the Cost seems to smooth the waters a bit.

Let's be honest: the Obama infomercial was about comforting white Americans -- especially middle and working class white Americans. That said, it was arguably necessary and -- for what it was -- very effective.

Although only time will tell, it appears that the Obama infomercial accomplished exactly what it needed to do: soothing skittish white undecided voters without alienating current supporters.

What do you think? Is this a problem? Is there any possibility that small bands of fanatics armed with well-read copies of The Turner Diaries will rise up and wreak havoc?
