2nd Amendment Validity

The Denver Post published an opinion piece by James C. Baily Jr. which was in response to a pro-gun article by Ed Quillen published earlier.

Finally, Quillen says the Second Amendment isn't archaic or outdated, especially since it was "one of the nation's first laws." Some of the other first laws, which I guess in Quillen's opinion should still be viable based on that reasoning, are not allowing women to vote and condoning slavery.

Too many people die or are injured by guns in this country. The gun issue is complex and deserves reasonable debate. The Second Amendment is outdated and only valid to those financially or emotionally invested in the sale or ownership of guns and should no longer be used in an honest discussion on this important subject.

My sentiments exactly.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

    Reasonable. Funny word that.

Like the reasonable gun restriction that says Mike has two machine guns attached to his feet.

That is, assuming he is sophisticated enough to know how to use shoelaces.

I agree. Whether there is a Second Amendment or not, I want guns and I will not tolerate self-righteous do-gooders throwing additional obstacles and hurdles in my way.

The only discussion i'm willing to have is over which current obstacle and/or hurdle to get rid of.

And Anon, I've never seen a sheep with tied shoes, I suspect Mike is no different.

  4. I agree. The gun issue deserves reasonable debate. Too bad the anti-gun crowd can only argue with emotions and lies rather than with any reason.

  5. Again, folks like Weerd and FWM are emotionally invested in the gun issue. Because of their lack of success in the social and professional milieus--a gun is essential to their self-esteem. That's why they are incapable of reasonable debate on the issue. Any position they perceive as harmful or to their guns is considered a personal attack on who they are.

Gunloons are disenfranchised in life; a gun, they feel, gives them the respect they otherwise couldn't earn. This is an enormous obstacle for gunloons to overcome and most of the time they cannot. After all, one doesn't become a gunloon overnight--it's a process wherein an individual has accrued a lifetime of low self-value.

  6. So why did I endevour to get a carry permit, Jade? Open carry is legal in my state, wouldn't I prefer to show off my "respect garnering device"?

Those two comparisons both expanded freedoms to our citizens, as opposed to taking them away.

  8. Anonymous, Thanks for the link to the "string" letter. Fascinating.

I think Jadegold might be right about you guys, sorry. What else could explain your comments?

How about being tired of anti gun people lying all the time?

Seriously, there's very little said in favour of bans or restrictions to the media that isn't pulled completely from the pro-ban sides collective arses.

Should give credit where it's due though, Jade's a lot more condescending and arsehoplish towards the pro-common sense side, but at least he isn't violent.

Maybe the UK could learn from you. More sensible laws and less violence-prone antis.
