Why Concealed Carry is a Bad Idea

An apparent good Samaritan who allegedly pulled a gun in downtown San Mateo after seeing a woman get pushed is facing a felony assault charge.

Twenty-three-year-old Ashley Viola pleaded not guilty on Friday to the charge as well as three misdemeanor gun counts.

Prosecutors say he tried to shoot the man who allegedly pushed the 57-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon, but didn't have a bullet in the chamber. According to police and witnesses, Viola began chasing the man with his gun drawn after witnessing the alleged assault.

Police who responded almost shot Viola before he surrendered.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe says there are concerns about Viola's mental health.
I don't think this is the only guy going around with a gun who fancies himself the arbiter of public comportment and the avenger of little old ladies. The problem is some of these guys are too stupid (deciding to shoot someone for "pushing") or too stupid (trying to shoot someone with no bullet in the chamber), or too stupid (almost getting shot by the police themselves) to be of help.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

Since you are so fond of citing why "guns are bad for women" can you tell us exactly at what age women are "little old ladies" and no longer entitled to their rights?

  3. We know he didn't really have a CCW.

What we need to know is did he pass California's strenuous background checks? Or did he just obtain and carry a gun illegally? Either way this story is just more gun control FAIL.

I can always tell when you strike a nerve--while at the same time not putting up another of the many stories about gunzmoronz that end in a death or injury. They come on to tell you that you're wrong. Oddly, that doesn't happen too often (like almost never) when you put up one of those posts about some shithead's kid or grandkid shooting themselves or another family member with a "family" gun.

Ahh, "Mike, you condescending prick", anothher gutless piece of shit commenter who hasn't even got the balls to use his actual blognomen. Just adding another shovelful of shit--of which he has, no doubt, an inexhaustible supply.

  6. San Mateo (SM). Where the Police consider themselves above the mere serfs they rule over.

Ashley is going to have an expensive problem now. Carrying a firearm without a CCW (SM does not issue to non police), brandishing and felonious assault. The boy will do some time on this one. No good dead goes unpunished in CA

Wouldn't matter if the woman was being beaten within an inch of her life, or being raped. In CA, non police are to act as witnesses, not get involved.

I have a CCW in CA (different county). Were I to get involved, my Sheriff would pull my permit. Yup, circumstances are immaterial to him since i'm not the one in danger. Best I could do would be to take pictures, make a phone call, and wait for the police to arrive and clean up the mess.

  7. What this has to do with CCW permit holders is everything. What this guy did was exactly what you guys do. If he turns out to be a mass murderer with no permit, nothing changes. The point is you guys walking around with guns on the lookout for misbehaviour cause more trouble than you're worth.

I'm sorry, I observed that everyone here posts under some sort of pseudonym, I assumed it was the norm. I doubt that I will feed you trolls much more.

  9. If someone else points a gun at you, does it matter if you have a gun on you? You couldn't pull it out. And if someone else came to your defense, they mite shoot him, but what if he shoots you too, or stands in front of you and rescuer and shoots the rescuer. Sounds like a loose situation too me
