Baby With a Gun

Pro-gun fanatics think this is funny, apparently. I think they're wrong about that. In spite of the ridiculous disclaimers, this video carries a terrible message.  It violates more than the 4 Rules of Gun Safety. It demeans the unspeakable tragedy of accidental gun deaths which happen hundreds of times each year, often involving children. It makes light of the importance of keeping guns away from very young children.

The overall message I take from this is "lighten up, don't take it so seriously."  That's wrong.

What do you think?  Please leave a comment.

  2. Meh, my parents have a very similar photo of me when I was a child. I seem to have turned out alright.

  3. Mikeb, you are correct that many people don't feel the need to define their lives by the bad events that happen, particularly when those events are rare. To me, the video was just silly.

  4. Italian Mikey,
There are certain situations where it's acceptable to violate the muzzle direction rule, such as when cleaning it, or when posing kids for adorable photos.

Since you have no experience or knowledge of firearms, you may want to keep your opinion to yourself about these adult matters.

  5. Yeah, lighten up. It's only kids getting ahold of guns that we're joking around with. Nothing wrong with that, eh?

You guys who take that attitude are poor examples of responsible gun owners. If you were responsible you would denounce this video for being in bad taste. It's not just silly, unless you have an agenda and are so biased towards guns that you can't see straight.

By not drawing a line and calling out your less-than-responsible friends, you are contributing to the problem.

    1. This is a work of art. It's not all that funny, but it's trying to be. Do you really imagine that there's an otherwise intelligent and responsible gun owner out there who will see this video and think, "Hey, that's a good idea"? On the other hand, do you really think that anyone who would see this and want to try it was storing his guns safely beforehand?

No Greg, I don't think an "intelligent and responsible gun owner" would, but the trouble is you're no all like that.

    1. And you've yet to propose anything that would stop people who aren't intelligent and responsible, other than taking guns away from people who have accidents, even though an intelligent and responsible person can still have one of those.
