Call the White House - Message from CSGV

Dear Friend,

Today the funerals will begin in Newtown, CT.  As a nation, we continue to mourn this unbelievable loss of twenty children and six brave teachers.  If you did not see President Obama's powerful speech to the families in Newtown go here to watch it.

We echo the President's words when he said, "I am very mindful that mere words cannot match the depths of your sorrow, nor can they heal your wounded hearts.  I can only hope it helps for you to know that you're not alone in your grief, that our world too has been torn apart, that all across this land of ours, we have wept with you, we've pulled our children tight."

We agree when he said, "We can't tolerate this anymore.  These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change. We will be told that the causes of such violence are complex, and that is true. No single law - no set of laws can eliminate evil from the world, or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society. But that can't be an excuse for inaction. Surely, we can do better than this."
And we are buoyed when he said, "In the coming weeks, I will use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens -- from law enforcement to mental health professionals to parents and educators -- in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this. Because what choice do we have? We can't accept events like this as routine. Are we really prepared to say that we're powerless in the face of such carnage, that the politics are too hard? Are we prepared to say that such violence visited on our children year after year after year is somehow the price of our freedom?"

And while words bring comfort and begin the healing process, they are not enough.  We need action.
Please, take a moment and call The White House at 202-456-1414 or 202-456-1111.

Tell the operator or leave a comment.  Talk about the event, the President's reaction and how we need an action plan now.

Forward this email to friends and family.  Encourage others to be involved.

Your actions combined with the actions of other concerned citizens will make a difference! Let's raise our voices and not stop until change happens!  Thank you!

Barbara Hohlt, Board Chair

  1. Thanks, Coalitition to Stop Gun Ownership. I sent a message telling the president to allow teachers to be armed and to improve access to mental health services.

    1. We should also call and tell them to oppose more laws. This man killed his mom and stole her guns no laws could have stopped this. To ALL pro 2ND share this link ask rest of us who have a brain to make calls of there own.

    2. Laws which would sanction against the possession of firearms (and all other weapons) by ordinary civilians would have certainly averted such a tragedy. Why do you oppose the right to life?

    4. Yes E.N. we all know how well laws prevent crime. Drunk driving laws have eliminated drunk driving deaths, drug laws keep people from getting high and theft laws stop people from stealing every day. I know, why don't they just pass a law against murder? Yea, that should do it! Why hasn't anyone thought of that before?
If you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have guns. The innocent, law abiding people will be defenseless. Look how well gun laws have worked in Chicago and D.C.

    5. We're not talking about "life without rights." Your flair for the melodramatic is too much.

If the gun-nut mom had practiced simple common-sense safe storage, her lunatic son would never have gotten his hands on the guns. But you champions of freedom and rights are opposed to that.

    6. Mikeb, you keep giving links to your "proper gun control" article, but have you read it? That's a huge infringement on rights.

    1. Why do you oppose your right to disarmament?

    2. Rights are about choice. Your "right to disarmament" is the idea of taking choice away and is thus no right at all.

  3. Frickin' hilarious, the Mass-Murderer-in-Chief mourning a mass murder. Put the sumbitch on trial for war crimes is my message.

    3. The president isn't the nation, Chickadee. Of course, you don't understand that.

    4. I do understand that.

You being vacant of anything in resemblance of "reason" fail to realize that I object to "orlin sellers" calling the current executive a "mass murder", due to the performance of the duties inherent in his office.

    5. Chickadee, are you claiming that no leader can commit mass murder? You're making this too easy...

    1. A ban on the possession of devices capable of such destructive firepower would have stopped the massacre. So would have a law mandating the use of a safe. If there wasn't a firearm in the home, there would probably be 26 people who would still be alive right now.

"YES MULTIPLE POST DON'T LET THOSE 2ND HATING FUCKS TAKE OUR RIGHTS WITH OUT A FIGHT!"

If you put up a fight, you get to (eventually) meet "old sparky". Remember that.

Also, I ask the "pro-gun" side a fundamental question:

Why is one justified in keeping a firearm in ones home for defensive purposes?

    2. Dumb ass the FBI and Burrow Of Justice prove more gun laws cause more crime. If they take away our rights it wont be long before they come for yours. And I said CALL retard un like you anti gunners we don't like people being killed. The 2ND protects all the other rights.

    4. How are we justified in owning and carrying firearms? Individual rights, that's how. If you don't believe in individual rights, shut up. You shouldn't exercise a right that you don't believe in.

      Delete
    5. So you believe that one individual killing another is justified? Such would imply that you see some lives as more valuable than others.

      Delete
    6. Only in the case when the one is trying to cause harm against the innocent other. The right to life doesn't imply a duty to be a victim.

    7. Timothy Mcveigh killed 168 people and injured over 800 and never fired a single shot. If people want to kill, they will kill. You can't legislate away hate and violence, gun laws only disarms the law abiding and innocent and leave them defensless.

    8. Dunce Cap, shouldn't you be asking Obama that question?

  5. Everyone should call and remind him that before schools were "gun free zones", there was only 16 mass killings in 62 years, but in the last 22 years since that legislation there have been 106, clearly gun free zones DON'T WORK.

  6. And one other thing...why don't people push for fixing this violence from people with mental disorders when nothing has happened, and only pushes for it right after children are dead...isn't the time to push for an open conversation on how to curb ALL violence BEFORE things like this happens?

  7. Gosh, I see that the Armed Indignoranti are out in force.

Hmmm, maybe the NRA will find out that allathem congresscritters they bought only thought that they were rented. Tsk,Tsk.

    1. If you like I'll post the FBI and BJD showing how more gun laws lead to more crime. Unless the NRA owns them to in which case you're SOL any way.

    1. Not nothing. Improve the mental healthcare system, and let teachers who get the training carry handguns in the classroom.

    2. We also need to institute proper gun control laws so gun availability to the unfit will be diminished.

    3. You seek to do the impossible by taking away rights from those who do no wrong.
