The shooting spree began shortly around 1 a.m. on Sunday, when Griego snuck into his parents' bedroom while his mother, Sara Griego, was asleep. There he raided the closet where the family kept their guns, and immediately used a .22 rifle to kill her, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
Griego's 9-year-old brother was sleeping with his mother at the time and woke up. When Griego told the boy his mother was dead, the youngster didn't believe him, according to a police report.
"So Nehemiah picked up his mother's head to show his brother her bloody face," the report states. "Nehemiah stated his brother became so upset so he shot his brother in the head."
He then went into his sisters' bedroom. "Nehemiah stated when he entered he noticed that his sisters were crying and he shot them in the head," the police report states. The girls were 5 and 2 years old.
The teenager waited for his father to come from his overnight shift working at a nearby rescue mission. When his father, Greg Griego, walked into the home around 5 a.m., unaware of what had taken place, Griego shot him multiple times with the AR-15 rifle. His excuse: frustrated with his mother. His passion: video games like Grand Theft Auto. Gun availability: high - bedroom closet.

Religion and Guns mix very well!
ReplyDelete"The white man, that landed here; He came with two great weapons. One is the bible and the other was the gun. If he didn't humble you with the bible, he'd crumble you with the gun. And he's still praising the lord and passing the ammunition." - Lewis H. Michaux
You're forgetting germs. Old World diseases wiped out perhaps as much as ninety percent of the native populations of the American continents.
DeleteYou know, I wonder if that's not some government propaganda to mitigate the genocide.
DeleteYou just want to see a conspiracy everywhere there are white people.
DeleteMikeb, you left out the rest. He had planned on taking the AR-15, heading for the local Walmart, and then shooting as many people as possible before the police killed him.
ReplyDeleteBut apparently a friend talked him into going to a nearby church, where he confessed to a security guard (not clear if it was an armed security guard or not) and then he eventually agreed to surrender after being talked out of shooting more people. The security guard then facilitated his surrender to police after confirming the deaths of his family members.
Apparently he was a 'good' kid from a nice family who had no previous trouble, doesn't appear to have been bullied at school, no trouble with law enforcement.
Just another example of why guns in the home kill people in the home on a pretty much daily basis, where it is legally purchased guns in the hands of someone in the house, not an intruder, not a criminal breaking in not a defensive shooting in a public place.
Boy, it sure would have been more convenient for the kid though if that loaded gun was on the nightstand. Just another example of why the people who have guns shouldn't, least of all AR 15s or similar weapons which can spray fire.
I hope someone awards that church security guard a medal for heroism; that guard prevented a lot of deaths - and like the teacher in California didn't shoot anyone to do it.
But then I'm sure the gun nuts are all just sobbing that they didn't get to shoot and kill the 'goblin', cause they shoulda coulda woulda, you betcha! - morons. It is the 'our guns are the violent solution to x-y-z' mentality is the problem. Our gun culture is a massive failure, our number of guns in the hands of civilians is a massive failure.
The gun violence is the problem, the guns are the problem, the gun manufacturers art the problem. Guns kill people, not video games or movies or music lyrics. Other countries have those, without this kind of violence resulting. The difference? FAR fewer guns.
Fewer and fewer people are actually owning guns; those few who do are owning more guns. This is the result.
Just a guess, but I would not be surprised to find out this was a religious right family, with lots of God and guns and conservative delusional paranoia in the mix, same as the Lanza family, minus the Asperger's complication.
Fewer guns is the solution, too many guns is the problem.
Fewer guns? That would be because such a high percentage of gun owners do something wrong? Oh, wait, that percentage is less than one tenth of one percent. You're all for the 99%, except when you're not.
DeleteWith rights come the possibility of harms. You never can wrap your mind around that fact. People who are controlled are safe, but we don't want that life. And the course of history shows that people can't be controlled forever.
You're stretching the numbers, as usual, Greg. But the point is it's TOO MUCH. Something should be done.
DeleteI'm not stretching anything, based on the numbers of gun owners vs. total deaths and injuries from firearms.
DeleteActually Greg people who are controlled are not safer than anyone else; security is an illusion. Go ahead and spend a week in a prison -- the ultimate secured environment -- and tell me just how safe you were.
DeletePrisons do not guarantee anyone's safety. Neither does giving up liberties. Violent people can use any number of objects, methods, and techniques to harm good people. Efforts to prevent violent people from acquiring certain objects is a waste of time and energy ... time and energy that would be much better spent trying to actually reform violent people, if that's even possible.
The worst thing anyone could possibly do for security is figuratively tie a good person's hands behind their back -- which is exactly what gun control does.
Exactly so. Prisoners are managed, but in many cases, they're not controlled. I was suggesting a world in which the minds of people are controlled from on high. Such a place would be a fools' paradise, no place that I want to live.

You're not reading. This kid was considered a good kid. Not in trouble. He just got mad, and used the gun to kill Mom. Happens all the time when guns are available.
DeleteSo these details prove my point in the previous post: this kid killed his family members while they were sleeping in bed ... starting with the oldest and working his way down. Then he killed dad when dad came home.
ReplyDeletePlease note that the son could have easily killed everyone using a pipe or a hammer. One solid blow to the head with a pipe or hammer is lethal. And the fact that dad was awake wouldn't matter since his son could simply walk up behind him and swing with full force.
Every family in the U.S. could keep all their firearms locked in a safe 24/7 ... and the only thing it would do is guarantee that the firearms were not readily available when a home invader crashes through a window or the front door. It would not stop abusive husbands, wives, or teenage children from killing the family.
Bullshit. The Gun Nuts mantra of a 'Hammers are just as dangerous' means that guns were never invented because ancient warriors had swords and hammers why would they need anything else.
DeleteBullshit. Totally made up. Killing someone with a hammer? That is not easy, boz.
DeleteGuns make it easy. Cowards love guns because they are inadequate pussies and broken internally.
Damn, that's why there are so many cops and military personnel.

DeleteBullshit what? Are you arguing that hammers are not lethal when a lunatic attacks a sleeping victim -- especially small children?!?!? If that is your argument, you are a fool.
The reason that criminals and armies use firearms is because they pretty much never have the "luxury" of attacking sleeping victims at point blank range.
Mikeb, why'd you bring back comment moderation? It wasn't to stop comments like Anonymous's at 9:09, apparently.
DeleteNo, I've always allowed name calling although I'll admit I don't like "pussies" the way it's used there.
DeleteMikeb, your side only uses the 1950s view of manhood when you want to mock gun owners. Otherwise, you want Oprahized men. Be consistent.
DeleteWithout a gun in that house, those people would still be alive. Guns make it quick and easy to kill someone. If you had to kill your mother with a knife, you would have to take the knife and push it into her, holding her close while she screamed for mercy. You would have to stab her over and over. That would be hard. Then you would have to kill your younger brother, sticking the knife in while he screamed. THe other two kids would have woken up and would either run away or try to hit you. If you are 15, killing your dad with a knife would be extremely hard. Most 15 YO boys are not as strong as their dads. I could have easily killed my son with a knife when he was 15.
ReplyDeleteGuns are the weapon of cowards, because it is so easy to kill. Only cowards and pussies want them, because they are not men. I am a man. I do not need a gun. My character makes me a man. If you need a gun, you are just a pussy and a broken piece of shit.
Do women need guns then?
DeleteSo the 15 year old who held his mother's bloody dead face up to his crying brother and then shot his brother in the face wouldn't be able to stab his brother?
DeleteAnd the girls who were 2 and 5 years old, who were crying in their bedroom and paralyzed with fear, they would have had the wherewithall to run away if the mother had screamed? And those girls -- 2 and 5 years old -- would have been able to outrun the 15 year old brother?
If you believe that, you are a moron and I am glad that you don't own firearms.
As for your comments about the traits of people who own firearms, my 90 pound daughter and my 140 pound wife will take your thoughts into consideration, or not.
Of course he COULD HAVE killed them with a blunt instrument, but he used a gun which is more efficient and more lethal.
