Colorado Man Gets 18 months for Accidental Shooting

A 25-year-old man was sentenced Thursday in an accidental shooting that killed a man at a Colorado Springs hotel.
Billie Thomas Allen was ordered to serve 18 months in jail in the February death of 29-year-old Justin Dore at a Days Inn on Rusina Road.
A jury convicted Allen of reckless manslaughter at an October trial after hearing testimony that both Allen and Dore were high on methamphetamine when a gun went off while Allen was handling it.
Manslaughter carries a normal presumptive range of up six years in prison.
You see, one way to ensure that the authorities take your negligent gun handling seriously is to be using drugs at the time of the incident. That almost guarantees there will be no slap on the wrist or shrugging it off entirely.

  1. It should be a lot more than that. If you choose to be impaired, whatever follows is your fault.

    2. Except that owning a gun does not cause impairment.

    3. So owning a gun makes you not responsible for what happens to that gun? This negligent thinking is why we have 33,000 gun shot deaths a year. There is a power that goes with a gun that does impair. Since you are under that impairment, you wouldn't know. It's like a racist, is the last one to know he is a racist. And yes, we know you don't understand that concept either.

    4. Greg, what about when you choose to be impaired with your home brew? Doesn't that count?

    5. Yes Greg, reading you spout the other post that guns and alcohol are a responsible mix, just shows your idiotic depraved thinking.

    6. Mikeb, as I've explained to you before, being a gun owner does not oblige a person never to drink alcohol. It's not the tools or most of the substances; it's the person.

    7. That's our idiot Greg. Defend what everyone knows is a deadly mix, alcohol and guns. True hillbilly thinking.

    8. Anonymous, try using your brain. A person can have both in the house without mixing the two activities. But thanks for showing your prejudice and limited thinking.

    9. You said using alcohol WHILE using your gun was fine.
Another lie from the site liar, to try and make himself look not so stupid. It's a little late for that coward.

    10. Greg, tests have shown that with every single drink you're reflexes and ability to react are diminished. I guess you think it's good enough as long as you remain a little bit responsible. And that's assuming you never ever overdo it, which I doubt.

    11. I did not say that using alcohol while using a gun was fine. That is a lie.

    12. Greg, face it, you can never drink, not even in moderation, if you want to be considered a responsible gun owner. Even if you lock your guns up in a proper safe prior to imbibing your first beer, which l doubt very seriously you do, you're still running the risk of having one of those home invaders you're so afraid of popping over. Then what do you do?

    13. Mikeb, I refuse to tell you how my guns are secured because that's none of your business. It doesn't mean that they're unsecured. But your claim here is absurd. Do you imagine that taking a drink makes a person forget the combination to a safe? Your claim here is that gun owners must be teetotalers, proving once again that you are a magical thinker.

    14. The lie here is the sites lying coward, as usual. His comment stated that there is nothing wrong with drinking while using a gun. The site liar has this problem with arrogance and superiority. He thinks he knows better than anyone else. A proven trait of racists, bigots, and antisemites.

    15. And now we know Greg doesn't own a gun safe. If that were me, I'd pleas the 5th too.

    16. Mikeb, you know nothing, but that's never stopped you before.

    17. Send us a picture of your gun safe, Greg. What have you got to lose?

    18. No, Mikeb, I'm not posting anything like that on-line for the world to see. But thanks for showing that you sympathize with the newspaper that published a list of gun owners.

    19. Right, but the hillbilly criminal lying coward expects me to post for everyone, when and why I carry.
      What a despicable lying coward.

    20. No, Jim, we don't know where you live, nor do we even know your real name. You know both of those things about me. All I want to know from you are the types of places and the types of circumstances where you carry. You don't have to give specific names or the state and city.

But it's so much easier to call someone a coward from the safety of an anonymous computer than to back up your own words.

      Next lie.
Your words are the proof most of the commentators on this site, including Mike, have concluded you are a cowardly. criminal, liar.
I guess you cannot read either. I gave my response to your inappropriate questions.

    22. Do you own a gun safe Greg?
Stop insisting that people answer personal questions from you, when you refuse to answer personal questions yourself, hypocrite.
