Quote of the Day

“The thing is, once everybody’s carrying guns, it kind of becomes hard to identify who the good guy is, who the bad guys is. It’s not like people are running around with a stamp on their forehead saying, ‘good guy,’ ‘bad guy,’” said Marshall, Texas, Police Chief Jesus Campa.

  1. I guess Chief Campa will have to do what every other policeman does in this country and read up on the law. If carrying a gun is legal, he's a "good guy" until he breaks the law. Then he becomes a "bad guy".
It seems to work pretty well just about everywhere.

    1. Only a kill happy gun loon would call 30, 000 a year dead from gun shot "working well."

    2. Anon, our criminal justice system works pretty well. It balances the protections of civil rights with the safety of the public. Are you wanting to go back to when probable cause wasnt required?
Chief Campa is free to piss and moan about having to follow practices that are in place nationwide. However, the expectation is that he'll do his job in a proffessional anner. If something is legal, then its ok to do.
Whenever you bring out the thirty thousand number, its pretty obvious you've run out of whatever logical argument you might have.

    3. Sorry master liar, the law isn't working well if 30,000 die every year from gun shot, but you go ahead and think it is. That's why I'm not willing to live in your world of gun loon logic.

    4. Again with the 30,000 thing. Anon, you need to first work on your accuracy. The CDC is showing 33,000 firearm deaths in 2012. However, 20,000 of those are suicides, and not something law enforcement can affect a whole lot. Especially since people who commit suicide don't often open carry to show their intent.
Bear in mind that the majority of states have either a shall issue permit system, or Constitutional carry. And permit holders misbehave infrequently enough compared to the general public, that the VPC has to work hard to inflate the numbers in their "database"
The police all over the country have been dealing pretty well with what I believe is somewhere around nine million permit holders. There are a bit under 180.000 permit holders in Minnesota alone.

"That's why I'm not willing to live in your world of gun loon logic."

You don't have to accept my logic Anon, you just have to live in the world that is. Do you live in a shall issue state Anon, perhaps even, perish the thought, an open carry state?

    5. Your dishonest attempt to divide the gun shot death figure as if suicide by gun is not a gun shot death cements your gun loon credentials. Your sorry pronouncement that I must learn how to live in a society that has 33,000 gun shot deaths a year only shows your acceptance for needless death. Par for a typical lying gun loon.

    6. Has nothing to do with acceptance Anon. You have but to provide some sort of cogent argument that Chief Campa's concerns about open carry has anything at all to do with changing the outcome on the two thirds of gun deaths that are suicides, and you can quote the bigger number all you want.
As for the smaller number, I would suggest that since there aren't a lot of permit holders or open carriers being shot by police, that is a good indication that the police are dealing well with what the laws are in their jurisdiction.
I had to deal with that when "don't ask, don't tell" was implemented and when the ban on gays in the military was lifted. Yes, I was there for both. I had soldiers who were quite upset, and it was my job to set them straight.
I'm not sure of the context of the quote, but you would think he would be accustomed to it. After all, I believe he's spent his entire career in Texas.

    7. Fine, use your smaller number. Now tell me why you accept 12,000 deaths by gun shot when you could prevent many of them by regulations that would not effect anyone's ability to buy, use, and own guns.

    8. Perhaps you can share how people who open carry and don't break the law have anything to do with the 12,000 who aren't suicides?
We have laws for people who commit homicide and they've been there for quite some time.

    9. I never said open carry people had anything to do with gun shot deaths, but thanks for lying again and dodging the question. Next lie SS......

Look way up to the top of the page and you'll see that open carry is the topic of this discussion.

  2. The thing is, once everybody's wearing heavy coats you can't tell who has a concealed gun and who doesn't, and it becomes kind of hard to identify who the good guy is, who the bad guy is. It's not like people are running around with a stamp on their forehead...
