Visit to My Local Occupation.

I mentioned to Dog Gone that I went to the local rally to see what is going on. That probably differentiates me from most of the people commenting on this blog.

The protests are near where I work. In fact, I marched with them as they began their protests on the first day.

It was mostly people hanging about, but I did see members of pretty much every ethnicity. Although the movement was pretty young. I am not really committed to camping out. Not to mention I couldn't figure how they would keep their tents blowing over in a wind.

One protestor I talked to was an MBA who was out of work. Although, I wouldn't try to stick them into one group since it's a fairly diverse lot.

The clip below is interesting since it mentions a general strike, which is something I've heard mentioned as a possibility on both sides of the Atlantic. While General Strikes are common here, the most famous of which was the 1926 Strike, they are less common in the States. Calls are becoming more frequent for the possibility of such a strike in the US.

Quite frankly, this is far more of a popular rebellion than the tea party movement. That's probably why the astroturfers are here with their posts. But one can visit a local protest to see that the astroturfers are waging a losing war.

These are the people who are suffering who are finally finding their voice. That voice cannot be silenced.

  2. The fact that rage has to use a badly cherry picked set of data underlines how weak that is, how flawed his views, how much a failure his ideology.

Rage, you are part of the 99%, but you are too stupid to recognize it, so you shoot off your mouth, and at the same time shoot yourself in the proverbial foot.

I particularly laughed at the assertion in this link, that President Obama has "never held a real job in his life."

Apparently they don't consider a real job being an attorney - he met the first lady and began dating her when they worked at the same law firm. Or being a law professor, author, state senator or U.S. Senator.

WHY is it, exactly, that those are not jobs, by your definition, Rage? They involve eucation, skills, hard work, regular attendance and hours, meeting deadlines, earning paychecks.... WHAT in particular, Rage, is it that makes elected office somehow not a real job in your distorted, hypocritical, double standard using, subjective opinion?

And apparently they don't consider any elected office a 'real job'. How is it that work in the private sector is the only work supposedly a 'real job'?

Commenters like Rage lack any integrity whatsoever. They so very often try to claim some sort of moral high ground, while they demonstrate they have no morality, no integrity or honesty, that they are only hateful people who try to build themselves up by making stupid claims that don't hold up under the most superficial scrutiny, much less a serious challenge.

Would you like to know another category where Obama fits into the top 1%? That would be his IQ, which is clearly higher than yours. I haven't checked recently on the IQs of the republican candidates in contention for the GOP nomination for 2012 (so far), but I'd be surprised if any of them have IQs that high.

I'd also feel pretty safe betting that rage is throwing stones at someone who has simply accomplished a whole lot more than he has.

  3. Stop playing with the troll (I'm sure it's only one since not that many people can be as stupid as this one is).

    He doesn't deserve our attention.

Troll, you only provide proof that you people are morons.

  4. Raging Fuckwit has a post that claims Obama grew up outside the US:

From ages six to ten, Obama attended local schools in Jakarta

In 1971, Obama returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Armour Dunham, and attended Punahou School, a private college preparatory school, from the fifth grade until his graduation from high school in 1979.

I guess these people haven't caught on that Hawaii became a state in 1960.

    It's the Fiftieth State.

Come back when you get a brain, moron.

  5. No need to call names, Laci. Mr. Rage is just another racist Obama-hater. No biggie.

  6. I think it is the rank hypocrisy that people like Crabby!!!!!!!!!! exhibit that is the one of the most unfortunate aspects of their feeble attempts at argument or criticism.

Does anyone on the right complain that Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up outside the U.S - because he really did grow up somewhere else his entire childhood. Or do they complain he never held a real job? Because acting is a piecemeal kind of activity, and one could contend that make believe isn't really working ---hmmmmm.............. then that criticism would apply as well to Ronald Reagan. Clearly Ronnie should NEVER have been elected. And what about John McCain? HE was born in Panama, not in the U.S., and grew up all over the Pacific, not in the U.S.... although some of that time does appear to have been in Hawaii........coincidentally, where Obama grew up.

That 'real' 1% that grumpy !!!!!!! wants to protest isn't REAL at all. It is a selective fiction, an ugly double standard applied unfairly and inaccurately.

  7. I couldn't help but notice Laci how very different, how very peaceful, these protests that you visited were, in contrast to the recent fires and riots.

Glad to see that the UK is back on track with this kind of protest rather than a less peaceful and lawful variety, as an expression of dissatisfaction with the very unlevel playing field.

    Correction--
Mr. Rage is just another moronic, racist Obama-hater.

He doesn't realise that Hawaii is a state!

But, Dog Gone is correct, there are loads of immigrants who come to the US and make it home who can be as patriotic, if not more so, than those born here.

And they made the choice to live in the USA.

  9. I should also add that raging cretin is pretty out of touch with the progressive movement.

Obama does not receive very much support from the progressives who feel he let them down. Of course, they are well aware that there isn't too much of an alternative out there.

As Dog Gone said "Rage, you are part of the 99%, but you are too stupid to recognize it."

  10. Apparently they don't consider a real job being an attorney

Everyone knows that lawyers are not human so that hardly counts.....

    - he met the first lady and began dating her when they worked at the same law firm. Or being a law professor, author, state senator or U.S. Senator.

So he dated the first available floozie in the office big whoop and as to being a author, state senator or U.S. Senator. If he wrote his own stuff I might be impresses but everyone knows that Bill Ayres ghost wrote all his crappy books and if he had actually voted present once in a while he might actually been working....

suckling at the public teet of elected office is not a real job....

  11. Raging Cretin, of course, can't back up his statements with facts.

But, we have an admin who loves to play with trolls.

  12. Crabby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wrote:

No, crabby, everyone does not know this about attorneys...because it is not true or factual, nor is this distinction applied by you and your ilk equally to those on the right. It is more of your stupidity and hypocrisy.

    Double standard much?

And then we have crabby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! writing this drivel:

So he dated the first available floozie in the office
Because he has been shown to be wrong, crabbypants!!!!!!!!!!!!! tries to change the subject. This is an example of Obama working in a private sector office, at a demonstrable job. Calling a woman who is an accomplished and well- educated professinal is both sexist, and in this instance, racist. Michele Obama has also been an associate dean of student services and a hospital executive - those are not on the resume of 'floozies'.

then we have more garbage from crappy pants!!!!!! If he wrote his own stuff I might be impresses but everyone knows that Bill Ayres ghost wrote to demonstrate that once again he is factually inacurate (He must get his propaganda from one of the right wing media sources that are so egregiously inaccurate - Beck, Limbaugh, Fox Snooze). In fact, other than a gag claim by Ayres, there is absolutely no basis for claims that the two collaborated on anything other than attending a few meetings together and one event hosted by Ayres for Obama when he was running for state senate. You are espousing yet another right wing urban myth/ fantasy crappy pants:

    http://factcheck.org/2008/10/he-lied-about-bill-ayers/

As to attendance, Obama's was far better than any number of other right wing members of Congress (Bachmann comes to mind) and he appears to have done more work on behalf of his constituents in that regard, including attending committee meetings. MORE of your hypocrisy and double standards Crappy pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should fact check those silly assumptions of yours occasionally; the right is notoriously poorly informed.

  13. Now, Dog Gone, you can't expect raging cretin to know what a fact is if it bit him on the arse.

  14. I notice that crappy pants also doesn't address Obama's teaching record; that is also real work.

Probably not the kind of work with which Crappy pants(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is familiar, but very real, very skilled employment.

In other words, crappy pants (!!!!!!!!!!!!), you are wrong, you are a liar, you are a troll that I have successfully poked with a sharp stick, and deflated.

Go hang your wrinkled head in shame.

  16. Yes Mike it is racism and the worst of the right wing fact-free ideology as well. I have no problem with people who oppose Obama so long as they criticise him fairly and accurately - as for example, I have seen our colleague Laci do on occasion.

Our troll Temper Tantrum !!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't even get his right wing fake information correct. Bill Ayers and others made jokes about this allegation that Ayers wrote A BOOK for Obama, Dreams of my father, which was written BEFORE he met Ayers while serving on the Annenberg Challenge in 1995, when it was published. The book was reissued in 2004. But this is not the only book that Obama wrote, and the right doesn't for the most part try to inaccurately attribute the authorship of the other books to anyone else - soemthing that rage doesn't realize, which only underscores that he is one of the illiterate low-information righties.

What occasionally annoys me is that you don't see a similar criticism of dumb bimbos like Palin. Palin, who despite being a journalism student, without academic honors and from less academically qualified institutions, should be able to write, had to have a ghost writer do her books because she really is incompetent.

Temper tantrum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also very selectively ignores that Obama was elected editor of the Harvard Law Review precisely because he CAN write, and there are any number of interviews with fellow students who describe his editing of their work, where he made suggestions and changes which improved it.

I don't have a problem with honest statements, or the fair application of a single standard objectively, but this troll does neither.

As to messing with blognomens, I do it in fun, as humor, to lighten up the comment (even if I'm the only one laughing - although I'm sure Laci chuckles as well, and others), which is distinct from the nasty and abusive language that many of these trolls use.

In that usage, I don't believe it violates your preferences mikeb. If I get more intense in going after these jerks, it might be a more fair objection.

  17. Don't forget Temper Tantrum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!'s attempt to use Obama's "living outside the United States" as a reason to dislike him, yet ignoring other immigrants and US citizens who have lived outside the US.

I have a strong dislike for Jus Soli as a basis for citizenship since being born in a place does not make one a patriot. How many traitors have been born in their homelands, yet betrayed the country.

And patriotism? You know how I feel about that!

Funny how their records both look the same.

    Bachmann

Though Obama started missing votes 3 months earlier than Michelle...

The fact that rage has to use a badly cherry picked set of data underlines how weak that is, how flawed his views, how much a failure his ideology.

Who has played more golf in his time as president Bush or Obama?

    Double standard much?
Nah...., I don't think Republican lawyers are human either.

  19. Aw, silly Rage!!!! your fact checking is so pathetic and inadequate. You are parroting bullshit from Faux News again, not something factually accurate.

To borrow a post on this from my old editor back in the day when I wrote for politicus, Jason Easly, over at Politicus USA and factcheck.org:

Fox News Claims that Obama is on Vacation More than George W. Bush

The tall tales about Barack Obama keep getting taller everyday on Fox News.
Tonight on The O’Reilly Factor guest Monica Crowley who claimed that, “Obama is taking a vacation every five minutes…Bush took two vacations a year in August and at Christmastime that was it.”

Monica Crowley claimed that, “He actually shoehorning the job of the presidency into his busy schedule of going on vacation, listening to the comic stylings of George Lopez, swaying to Paul McCartney, playing golf, shooting hoops, taking smokes. What else is this guy doing? Is he ever working?” O’Reilly pointed out that people said the same the thing about Bush, and asked what the difference is between Bush and Obama, and Crowley told a boldfaced lie, “Obama is taking a vacation every five minutes. He’s blowing off steam almost every day….he is got partying going on. He’s at the Nationals game. Bush took two vacations a year in August and at Christmastime that was it.”

Crowley is lying. Bush spent 1,020 days of his presidency on vacation. To put this into context, John F. Kennedy spent fewer days in office, 1000, than George W. Bush spent on vacation. Bush spent 487 days at Camp David, 490 days at his Crawford ranch, and 43 days in Kennebunkport. George W. Bush spent 69 days in Crawford during his first year in office. In contrast, according to FactCheck.org, Obama spent all, or part of, 26 days of his first year in office on vacation. This was less than all three previous Republican presidents, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush, but more than the two previous Democratic presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

In Fox News revisionist GOP history, George W. Bush was a hard worker who was always at his desk doing the work of the American people, while Obama is just another party animal Democrat, who doesn’t take his job seriously. Crowley’s applied a strange definition of vacation to Obama. Since when is shooting hoops, playing golf, or even having a smoke, a vacation? I do believe that Lopez and McCartney came to the White House. Obama did not go see them. No president has ever been as lazy as the man who spent 1/3 of his time in the White House on vacation, George W. Bush, and it is laughable that Crowley would even try to float such a ridiculous lie.

But thank you silly Rage, for giving me the opportunity to educate you and acquaint you with facts instead of the nonsense you believe. What color is the sky in your alternate right wing fantasy world?
