Darrell Issa Has a Good Idea

Noted car thief, arsonist and GOP leader, Darrell Issa (Repug-CA) is investigating the scandal that never was-"Operation Fast & Furious."

During his "investigation," he actually accidentally came up with a great idea: do away with the ATF and roll their duties into the FBI.

Of course, America's Own Terrorist Organization--the NRA--opposes the idea.  Why?  Because the FBI would actually enforce those laws the NRA says they want enforced.

  2. Really? I don't think "unfounded" means what you think it does.

Hey, maybe Arkansas just has its own language.

  3. A lot of these conservatives like to play Monday morning quarterback and question law enforcement. They pretend as if 99% of illegal Meican guns don't come from the US border.

  5. My choice would be to do away with the ATF and replace it with nothing. But once an agency is created, it claims immortality, alas.

Really? Do you ever think before you make a comment like that?

It's not just gunz the ATF deals with, dimwit.

  7. Why would the NRA oppose doing away with the ATF, if not for the reason Jadegold gave?

  8. And specifically what laws are not currently being enforced? Congress may vote to defund some enforcement, and cheers to them for defending our rights, but we need some details about this. I doubt that I'll be outraged in the same manner as some others, but I'd like to know.

Are you actually so stupid that you think the ATF's only function is to impinge on your precious 2A RIGHTS?

  10. As I read once in a political cartoon:

Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms--that should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

Mallard Fillmore, most likely. Thinly veiled rightwing screeds that are as humorous as AIDS.

You're a fucking moron. Do you seriously think (if you think at all) about the consequences of unregulated traffic in alcohol, gunz, explozivez and tobacco products. BTW, if you're thinking cost savings and lower taxes on those things, think again. The ATF's LE activities were transferred to DHS. The revenooers are still over at Treasury.

You're one of those idiotz who thinks that your life would be better absent gummint regulation. If that was the case you'd be teaching school at some one room schoolhouse in exchange for chickens. I assume you teach in Jonesboro, unless you're teaching at a private school (not likely based on your self report that your students are dullards). Get the gummint out of everything, post secondary, publicly funded institutions disappear. Or do you suppose that the good citizens of Arkansas would willingly pony up the several billions of dollars per year that it costs to educate their children?

  12. Democommie,

You invariably jump to the most extreme conclusion that you can form about any comment from my side. You also can't see a joke unless it sends you an announcement two weeks in advance.

  13. Actually, having worked with ATF, I always thought it would be more like an interesting party.

Actually, the connection is Taxation: all three are subject ot federal tax.

ATF is part of the department of treasury based upon the Fed's Ability to Tax from whence their ability to regulate the items also arises.

    And they still chase moonshiners!

Most of what you type is hilarious, even though you don't intend it to be taken that way. Considering your latest comment, is this:

"My choice would be to do away with the ATF and replace it with nothing. But once an agency is created, it claims immortality, alas."

Also a joke, mostly a joke, slightly a joke, not funny, slightly serious or serious like fuckin' metastatic cancer of the testes!"? It's hard to tell, there's really no "affect" when one types--excepting of course their previous comments.

  15. Democommie,

Case in point: My comment that announced itself as coming from a cartoon must be serious, while my other comment must be a joke.

  16. Greg, you do seem to be mimicking the NRA and gun-rights rhetoric with your ideas about the ATF. And in so doing, you slide into the mistaken idea that we gun-control folks are somehow affiliated with the ATF. Think about it.

  17. Mikeb302000,

No, I associate you and your partners here with the Brady Bunch, not the ATF. (Well, Laci's case isn't so clear.) I don't really care much about the ATF, other than to see said bureaucracy as part of the unnecessary complexity of government. Government agencies do tend to be fruitful and multiply.

Before Democommie pounces, I'll add that I do not oppose government regulation of various aspects of American society categorically. I would like to see restraint and clarity, as well as a committment to liberty.

    Oh, dear, Greg Camp, you forgot to add;

"for so long as they regulate what OTHER people do with other THINGS and not what me and my demented gunzloonz palz do wit teh gunz."

Oh, wait, I have an idea. Tell me what you think the gummint' should regulate--I think you can prolly do it in 25 words or less. I know that you can do it without any thought.

  19. Democommie,

You act as though regulation ought to be a verbose tangle.

Government ought to regulate environmental matters, since that's an area that affects us all--greenhouse gases, for example.

Government ought to regulate large businesses, particularly when they are virtual monopolies or are multinational corporations.

I've said all of this before. I'm for the individual. The larger the group or organization, the greater the need for regulation.

  20. I knew it would be a short list and that it would be word salad.

The modern world has thousands of occupations and you would like to see a few regulations for everything.

Once again you prove your ignorance.

  21. As long as we're on the subject, knucklehead; howzabout congress limit itself to investigations that actually have something to do with the currently completely fucked-up economy? Instead of engaging in purely partisan fishing expeditions like Issa is currently on. Very expensive, non-productive fishing expeditions.

I'll bet you think that piece of shit is a swell guy.
