New York To Tighten Up Gun Laws

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced Sunday that she's backing a bill that aims to crack down on corrupt gun dealers as well as eliminate the flow of illegal guns into New York.

Almost 90 percent of the firearms used in New York City gun crimes come from out of state, and most of those guns are illegal, according to the Democratic senator, who plans to introduce the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act this week.
The article describes the proposed changes, which sound like all good ideas to me. I find it strange that people allow such slipshod regulations in other states. New York has a right to complain.

  1. Gillebrand, one of my two senators, has had her own issues with gun control. I just thought I'd bring it up before someone else says she's a gunzhater:

  2. So in New York that has all of the wonderful gun control laws that don't work, they found that a few dealers didn't comply with New York and Federal law so the obvious answer is more laws?

Make it illegaller and they will stop.

Sounds like a liberal solution to me.

  3. Her bill has no chance of passing. Punish evil acts, and leave the rest of us alone.

  4. The article said it itself. Hand guns are already illegal in New York City. The Guns were purchased illegally. I don't understand the logic behind make more laws and tougher laws and the problem will go away. The laws were already being broken, so what will more laws do. Laws do not serve as a way to stop crime but as a way to punish those that are criminals.

  5. Summary execution, in the public square, of anyone selling a gun to anyone who then uses that gun to commit a crime. That sort of law would punish criminalz, you okay with that?

  6. Democommie,

Nope. Letting good people own and carry handguns, however, would be a good idea in New York City.

  7. The laws which are aimed at law-abiding people are necessary because the law-abiding gun owners can't seem to hold onto their guns. If you guys were truly responsible there'd be no need for more or stricter regulations. Please keep in mind were all those guns in the hands of criminals came from in the first place.

  8. democommie, I always wondered about her change of heart. I figured it was probably political opportunism, but maybe she's like me, one who's just come to her senses.
