A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that. Shane, in the movie "SHANE"
Longstanding rule, Orlon fluff for brains. Form follows function. Guns look different from axes, shovels, screw drivers, spoons or fluffy towels because they are designed to be exceptionally lethal weapons used at a distance. That function for which they are designed makes the a specific sub class of object - tool, if you will - that makes comparisons to other tools stupid. It makes them different, and in the way they have been used on a large scale it makes them bad.
Logic is not a skill you have grasped yet, and the facts are not your friend in this argument. Gun control is going to happen; assault style weapons and large capacity magazines will be banned, and we will finally have universal background checks for all gun sales. I think it is a safe bet that the NICS background data base is about to become compulsory not optional for the states that have been lax submitting the names of prohibited persons as well.
Just remember, most of the guns used in mass shootings are purchased legally. Clearly, that demonstrates we have a failure in the system of who purchases guns and how those purchases are conducted.
Also remember that the premise that the solution to our gun violence is more guns is false. It is part of your epic fail of the gun culture. That fail is coming home to roost big time.
Dog Gone, don't be so sure that gun control is coming. Do you really believe that the Republicans in the House will vote for that? You're as naive as you are sophomoric.
The Republicans in the House are like all other politicians, that is they don't care about the issues, only about getting re-elected. The tide is changing. Even some of them will recognize it. You watch.
Mike, you know the last time the Republicans wavered on assault weapons, they got punished. They're not about to let down their constituents...
"The NRA had a great night. They beat both Speaker Tom Foley and Jack Brooks, two of the ablest members of Congress, who had warned me this would happen. Foley was the first Speaker to be defeated in more than a century. Jack Brooks had supported the NRA for years and had led the fight against the assault weapons ban in the House, but as chairman of the Judiciary Committee he had voted for the overall crime bill even after the ban was put into it. The NRA was an unforgiving master: one strike and you're out. The gun lobby claimed to have defeated nineteen of the twenty-four members on its hit list. They did at least that much damage and could rightly claim to have made Gingrich the House Speaker."

DG, don't be so sure of yourself. So long as there's a Republican controlled house and Supreme Court precedents that don't favor gun control, I wouldn't count on it...
Geezopeeza, why don't you just get your lawyer to tell me what you meant to say...now get up on your high horse and try to shoot straight this time, shane....
No Orlon fluff for brains we want to laugh at you. When you cite a movie, and a quote, you are saying something about a movie.
We don't want to divert attention from the content of that quote; it only serves to underline for us how dumb you really are, and how failed your thinking is --- part of that larger epic gun culture fail to which you belong.
If everyone had a gun no one would die by gun violence Q.E.D. Please recall that no one died during World Wr 2 from gunfire and that gunpowder was invented in China who didn't use it for guns because they are Commies!
Gosh, it's easy to be a publicist for Firearm makers just bring up total bullshit and watch gun nuts regurgitate it!
It would be rather interesting to note that the Quing Dynasty forbade the possession of firearms by mere peasants. Such was a rather progressive move for the great nation which had inadvertently invented such appallingly lethal devices.

My dearest DG, in response to your poopy post I say, Big Deal.
DeleteThe quote and the point it makes is quite simple and doesn't need interpretation or any murdering by wordy wordiness.

DeleteMikeb, you're always going on about tides. I talk about rights. This is a fundamental difference between us.

Movies are mythology, not reality. try to remember that, Anonymous.....
ReplyDeleteI didn't say anything about a movie. I posted a quote and attributed it. That's is the reality. Try to remember that, microdot.

Speaking of the control of weapons in China,
DeleteIt would be rather interesting to note that the Quing Dynasty forbade the possession of firearms by mere peasants. Such was a rather progressive move for the great nation which had inadvertently invented such appallingly lethal devices.
E.N., only a true lover of tyranny would call China progressive.
DeleteE.N., I like how everyone who isn't you or the government is a "mere" something. Mere peasant, mere citizen. Nice superiority complex.
DeleteJust ignore the "mere" troll. If you don't feed him, he'll merely go away.
