Per MSNBC news, the shooter in Seattle was stopped by a student guard with pepper spray when he stopped to reload.
Proving once again, as with other shootings - Gabby Giffords shooting by Jared Loughner comes to mind as an example - there is a good argument to be made for smaller capacity weapons and magazines.
A good guy with a can of 'ouch', not a can of whoop-ass, not a can of deadly.
The NRA was wrong. Wayne La Pierre is WRONG. More guns are not the solution, the are the problem.

"Seattle police said the suspect entered the building, shot three people in the foyer and began reloading his shotgun.
ReplyDeleteAt that point a student who served as a building monitor confronted the shooter and pepper-sprayed him, grabbed his gun and pushed him to the floor, police said."
The number of magazine fed shotguns is rather limited DG. Of course, we don't really know much at this point My hats off to the security guard that he was able to used the limited tools available to prevail. Lets not forget, in the not too distant past, a woman was able to talk a gunman at a school into surrendering.
In both cases, its very fortunate that everything turned out favorably. Does that make it the best course of action when confronting an armed assailant? Not really. Its just what they had on hand.
In this case it sounds like he had a shotgun that didn't even have the magazine plug that made it legal to hunt birds with removed.
Police officers often carry pepper spray and sometimes a taser to have options in the area of less than lethal force. Here's a question for you, suppose instead of a security guard there had been a campus police officer there. Do you think he would have gone for his can of 'ouch' ? Or the can of deadly? I'm pretty sure I know which one.
It shows that the NRA has no clue when it says the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. I myself have disarmed a bad guy with a gun. I'm surprised a trained military person has no clue about options.

DeleteIts only an option if its available Anon. As I mentioned above police officers often carry both pepper spray and a taser in addition to a firearm when on duty. Which option do you think the police officer would have selected when this miscreant strolled in with a loaded shotgun?
I personally don't feel I should be obligated to engage in a fair fight with someone who initiates force against me. Though in this case, it still wouldn't be fair since I carry a pistol and the bad guy had a shotgun.
All of those Open carry nazi wacks could easily be stopped. They could all be easily disarmed.
DeleteI didn't get the impression that Dog Gone was talking about magazine changes in shotguns. Her point, as far as I got it, was that stopping to reload is when these guys can often be stopped. With the more popular rifles, that amounts to magazine size limitations.

ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone has said the "only" way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a gun. I think the opinion of the NRA and other gun advocates would be that the best way or most effective way of stopping a bad guy is with a gun. Isn't that why police officers carry guns as part of their standard issue of equipment?
DeleteYou don't read your own NRA gun loon garbage. Check the quotes by Wayne of the NRA
DeleteThis anonymous on anonymous action is funny, but kinda dumb. Why don't you do what I do, and get a handle? You are still anonymous, but at least we can follow who is who.

DeleteI believe that's exactly and literally what Wayne says every chance he gets.
