Gov. Christie: Blame Democrats For NJ Gun Laws, Not Me

Chris Christie

Ammoland

On June 9 2105, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) responded to a questions about gun control in his state by blaming Democrat legislators.

According to NJ.com, Christie was speaking at the Saint Anselm Institute of Politics, where he took questions from audience members.

When asked about the death of Carol Bowne – the Berlin Township resident who was killed in her own driveway while waiting on state permission to own a handgun for self-defense–Christie said;
“I’m dealing with a Democratic legislature — that’s what New Jersey’s given me. They have a very, very different view of the Second Amendment than I do. But they’re going to have to answer for these things.”
He did admit that Bowne’s death will focus attention on gun control for a time, but said he is not sure any real change to the gun control laws will result. He put it this way:
“The Carol Bowne situation is going to force more conversation in our state, although I am not confident that it will change.”

  1. This is a very antiquated law. Handguns were once considered the most likely weapon to be used in a crime or a hold-up. As I remember in places like our nation's capital. I don't know if any one else remembers another city that once had laws like this. As it happens, they are also the most likely weapon to be chosen for self-defense.

I still think that law enforcement should have the option of destroying every handgun that comes into their possession. I still believe in buy-back programs. The less guns, the less death. That's basic. But if a person needs a gun, they should be able to buy one.

That's fucked up. We're not just talking about a serious, high-crime city, but an entire state.

I could buy a pistol in California anytime I wanted to. Ten day waiting period. Seems goofy to me, because New York and New Jersey have some of the most hard-core conservatives that I have ever met. Agreed, I have never met a hard-core conservative.

    1. You are a seriously difficult person to predict, Mr. Junior. That's not a criticism, just an observation that you're full of surprises.

    2. I couldn't really follow FJ's comment. Is that what you meant, Kurt?

Not really. I meant that he occasionally takes a position that is close to the exact opposite of the one I would have expected him to take.

For example, I had thought that NJ's draconian permitting system for mere ownership of a handgun would very much appeal to someone who believes that "law enforcement should have the option of destroying every handgun that comes into their possession," but I clearly blew that call.

Just another illustration of the dangers of making assumptions, I suppose.

    5. Your sarcasm . . .

      Um . . . what "sarcasm"?

Holy shit--did you just accuse me of "lying," because I admitted having been wrong about something? Honesty demands that I claim to be right 100% of the time?

You get weirder and weirder every day.

The follow up comment was an example of your famous "playing dumb," pretending to not get something that you understood clearly. More lies, simply put.

Norhing at all "sarcastic" about that comment. The implied meaning is exactly the same as the actual, literal meaning. I had thought he would approve of a strict licensing requirement for handgun ownership, and his expressed desire for as many handguns as possible to be destroyed was, I thought, ample reason to believe that.

Pretend self-effacement: "Just another illustration of the dangers of making assumptions, I suppose."

Which part of that do you doubt--that I blew the call on Mr. Junior's view of handgun licensing, or that the reason I did so was that I'd made an incorrect assumption? I'll be fascinated to see how you'd dispute either one of those assertions.

  2. Oh, there's plenty of blame to go around, Christie. No need for you to be left out.

    1. Christie is being transparently phoney in this statement.

No argument here. The good news is that it's transparent enough that I seriously doubt a significant number of voters will be fooled.

Christie is head of the government that assisted in the murder of Carol Browne. He can run away from that fact, but he can't hide.

Guess he'll have to satisfy himself with being governor of good ol' New Jersey; proud home of legal incest.

    3. Yeah, right, he's responsible for the death of a woman who, had she been armed, MIGHT have been able to protect herself. But the governor of Louisiana has no hand in their exorbitant gun violence.

You're exactly right, Mikeb. Good for you.

    5. Are you that hypocritically inconsistent. If one governor is to blame for one thing the other must be blamed the the other. Unless, of course, blaming the first one was bullshit.

    6. Ok, Mike. So which camp do you belong in?

      1) Both governors are responsible
      2) Neither governors are responsible
      3) Hypocrite

    7. Wow--Christie can console himself that at least he's not facing the degree of righteous outrage being directed at NJ State Senator Steve Sweeney.

      Sweet.

    8. Number 1, TS. But I'd call it partly responsible.

    9. Really? So you are accepting partial responsibility for the governor and the gun control movement for Ms. Bowne's death?
