Open Carry Idiocy at the Atlanta Airport
Local news with video
Jim Cooley says he knew he wasn't breaking any rules when he went to drop his daughter. He walked into the airport with his AR-15 fully loaded with a 100-round drum.
Cooley says he was first approached by a fire marshal and then by an Atlanta police officer, who both asked him about the gun. Cooley says he was just exercising his rights.
"I told her I was carrying this for safely when she asked me why," Cooley told WSB-TV. "It shouldn't matter what I carry, just that I choose to carry. You never know where something might happen."

I think the republicans may have a new "Joe the Plumber." This guy is truly a man of less than half of the people. It really is too bad he is probably not prepared to run for the presidency any more than Sarah Palin was in 2012. He would be a helluva contender. The entire clown car could just head back to the circus dressing rooms.
ReplyDeleteStill he performs a valuable public service. I don't think it will be long before even the extremists in the Georgia State Legislature see the foolishness of their ways. Political posturing taking precedence over safety and common sense.
What I love the most...
This fucking Bozo the Clown actually had the nerve to tell the police officer that he was carrying a semi-automatic machine gun for his own safety. "You never know where something might happen." No way in hell I could ever say that with a straight face.
Cheers. Goofy maniac.
This fucking Bozo the Clown actually had the nerve to tell the police officer that he was carrying a semi-automatic machine gun for his own safety.".......Good to see you have chosen to have a comprehensive understanding of the things you rail against FJ...we wouldn't want people to be inaccurate in their hatred now would we Cookie(cookie was Bozo's side kick if ya dont remember)
DeleteI guess I remember. I don't remember the name Cookie, I thought it was something like, Butch. But I remember on the live show from KTLA, circa 1964, some lucky kid always got to be Butch and wear a helmet.
DeleteWhy not make Cooley a hero? He looks like he has enough time on his hands. Turn it into an endorsement for a presidential bid. Go with Lindsey Graham. Joe the Plumber has over thirty-three thousand likes on his Facebook page. That's something.
I found that justification pretty funny too, George. That's why I ended my quote of the article with it.
DeleteWhat do you think about it really, I mean aside from your knee-jerk defense of gun rights fanatics? Do you think it makes sense to carry a gun like that one with a magazine like that one at all times, because "you never know where something might happen." Or, do you think he's just another gun nut looking for attention because he's under the impression that this kind of behavior is helpful to the cause (something I've often stated I disagree with)?
I was mostly referring to FJ's use of the term semi automatic machine gun...
DeleteAs far as what do I think of this guy ...well carrying a rifle around aint for me and to me it does not make sense(though likely different reasons than you) however that is the beautiful thing about this country in that there are many many things that people do that many of us do not think makes sense thats freedom....We dont get to tell other people to stop because we dont like it
Well, we do tell people what not to do when there's a good reason. Don't steal, don't kill, even, don't drive excessively fast or down a one-way street. We could easily consider open carry dangerous for the simple reason that a gun nut like this guy is indistinguishable from a bad guy with a gun. He interrupts the normal flow of police activity as well as that of the ordinary citizens in his vicinity.
DeleteYes, we tell people not to drive excessively fast, but the problem is all drivers are indistinguishable from those who drive excessively fast (until they stomp on the gas). How do you deal with that?
DeleteThat's a bit of a stretch Mike, stealing, killing, speeding or wrong way driving, all of these things either deprive people of their property or endanger people just by merit of their occursance. Carrying a firearm, in and of itself does no true harm to anyone. Unless of course you have an irrational fear or dislike of firearms. I carry a firearm on a daily basis and thag fact does no harm to anyone.
Delete"He interrupts the normal flow of police activity as well as that of the ordinary citizens in his vicinity"... How dare he obey the law he is interrupting the normal flow of police activity....what ever that means
DeleteWe actually say only kill under certain circumstances Mike...not dont kill ever for any reason
MikeZ, that may be true as long as the gun carrier is a good guy and doesn't get pissed off.
DeleteHe walked into the airport with his AR-15 fully loaded with a 100-round drum.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with him--is the 150-round drum too heavy for him?
How could he fire one hundred and fifty rounds and not kill any innocent bystanders?
ReplyDeleteOh, but they used to claim that never ever has a civilian done that, only cops. And like many of their lies, that one has gone by the wayside after some examples made the news.
DeleteHow could he fire one hundred and fifty rounds and not kill any innocent bystanders?
DeletePretty much the same way one could fire one hundred rounds without killing any, or thirty rounds, or one: don't point the muzzle at any such folks, and mind the ricochets (a case could be made for using frangible ammunition in such a setting).
