Quick (upper right) was head of a six person “gun family”

A Brooklyn judge handed down sentencing Thursday in the case of a man who sold 151 guns brought from Georgia to an undercover New York cop on a street corner.
According to a release from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, Michael Quick, who maintained addresses in both New York and Georgia, made 13 trips in an eight month period between September 2013 and April 2014, shuttling guns, some stolen, northward.
This garnered Quick a conviction following a plea bargain earlier this month to one count of first-degree criminal sale of a firearm and one count of first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, to which Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun sentenced the man to 18 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision.
As noted by Chun’s office, Quick was the nexus of an enterprise that focused on acquiring guns in Georgia from multiple sources then transporting them to Brooklyn where, in each instance, the lots were sold to the undercover buyer on the corner of Foster Avenue and East 96th Street in the working-class Canarsie residential neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Arrested in April 2014, Quick and his wife along with four associates, all relatives, were booked on a 558-count indictment on a mix of firearms and conspiracy charges.
The article calls them "the gun family," but I argue that they're a long way from being a "gun rights family." Their profit margin, after all, depended on New York's draconian gun laws. They probably loved NY gun laws more than you do, Mikeb.
ReplyDeleteI'd think it's the loose gun laws and attitudes in Georgia that they really loved.
DeleteI'd think it's the loose gun laws and attitudes in Georgia that they really loved.
DeleteEven if it were true that Georgia has "loose gun laws," that would have done their bottom line no good, without New York's draconian ones.
It's the differential in the restrictiveness of laws that makes smugglers rich, and in this case, with most states closer to Georgia's level of restrictiveness than to New York's, it's New York that stands out as the anomaly (for which we should all be grateful).
Nonsense, Kurt. There are guns flowing from Indiana into Illinois, from Nevada and Arizona into California, from several states into New York and New Jersey, as well as many other examples. It's far from an anomaly what's going on between Georgia and NY.
DeleteYou're not getting it, Mikeb. My point is that New York's gun laws are a greater anomaly than Georgia's, as you demonstrate yourself when you acknowledge that there are "several states" from which the people of New York and New Jersey can seek relief from their home states's repressive gun laws.
DeleteI also wonder how many other firearms they sold during the months they spent on this investigation. I know it's a complicated decision as to when to arrest these folk, but you'd think the first shipment would be enough to put them away for a long while.
ReplyDelete"Most of the 155 firearms purchased with $126,000 in special buy money were handguns, although police also netted a few automatic weapons and a military-style AR-15, Bratton said."
The iron pipeline is another obvious fact which the gun nuts have always denied.
ReplyDeleteMike, I don't think anyone has denied that the "iron pipeline" exists, its who you attribute it to that is problematic.
DeleteCriminals are the reasons for such "pipelines". Not your everyday legal gun owner and permit to carry population. Your problem is, and always has been, that you attempt to blur the lines of criminals and law abiding people. Just because you were on the wrong side of the law once does not mean everyone else is.
There is no blurring of lines when gun loons openly support gun idiots who break gun rules. They are criminals and so are those who support them.
DeleteCan you give examples specific to your accusation?
DeleteNot my fault you don't read New.
DeleteI read just fine. Provide the examples and I will read them.
DeleteStop claiming you know, when you obviously don't. Thanks for proving you are just another dishonest kill crazy gun loon.
DeleteWhere did I claim anything? Provide the examples and I will read them.
DeleteSo you admit you don't know anything about the issue! Thank you!
DeleteLooks to me that you dont have anything on the issue. Thanks for all the lies.
DeleteLooks to me like you still haven't checked out the real figures. Figures.
DeleteI am still waiting on your examples. Looks to me you got nothing.
DeleteFigures.
You have already proven many times you have no intention of educating yourself on the facts, so go all the way and make yourself look stupid and childish. Thanks.
DeleteI am waiting for you to educate me anon. So show me these facts that you say you have. Come on anon, educate me.
