Murder Suicide in Arizona Restaurant

Local news reports

Authorities say two people died in a shooting at a shopping center in Mesa, Ariz., Thursday evening.

The shooting reportedly took place just before 6 p.m. at Vietnamese restaurant Phu Thanh.

Officials said a man and a woman died from wounds incurred during the shooting, and another person suffered a gunshot wound to the hip. A third was trampled trying to get out of the restaurant.

According to MyFOXPhoenix.com, the incident is apparently a murder-suicide case.

Now, I admit this could have been a gangland execution followed by intense remorse and suicide. But, more likely it was a lawful gun owner practicing Constitutional Carry who just cracked.

The Problem with Arizona

Here's an interesting comment on my post entitled 5-Year Old Tucson Girl Dead.

Anonymous said:

Gun Laws are not the problem in Arizona. We have more good guys with guns here than bad guys! That is how it should be! The problem is careless and uneducated gun owners. I would say the majority of people that live in states like Arizona are gun savvy and aware of how you should store your gun. It is very sad that this happened, but gun laws would not change a damn thing about it. Except when gang bangers or other unlawful gun owners have kids visit or live in their homes they would have to ask that the guns be locked up, good luck with that! It is our right as Americans to protect ourselves and our families with whatever means necessary, education is a means, so is vigilance.

I responded:

Anonymous, Thanks for visiting this old post and sharing your ideas.

I respectfully disagree with the part about laws not being helpful in stopping things like this.

This part I found interesting.

It is our right as Americans to protect ourselves and our families with whatever means necessary, education is a means, so is vigilance.

I would agree that we all have the right to use education and vigilance to protect our families, but not guns. In spite of what the Supreme Court said recently, I don't think gun ownership is an individual "right." That's not to say guns should illegal and banned, not at all. I just don't accept the 2nd Amendment arguments for justifying gun ownership.

Guns and Strippers - Phoenix Style

In Arizona, where just about anything goes as far as guns are concerned, Christmas weekend saw not one, but two shootouts in strip bars.

Obvioulsy what's needed is more and easier gun availability and fewer restrictions.

Arizona Gun Shops

Of course the gun dealers are absolutely powerless to do anything about this. Interestingly, Arizona law requires them to report multiple sales of handguns but not long guns.

Now that's an unfortunate law, don't you think?

Biker Gangs Shoot It Out in Arizona

MSNBC reports on the latest results of Arizona's lax gun laws, particularly the concealed-carry-without-a-permit law.

Police locked down a northern Arizona community Saturday after a shooting involving rival motorcycle gangs.

Four or five people were shot, and one was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital, Yavapai County sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said. No deaths were reported.

An unknown number of suspected motorcycle gangs members were detained.

If my sense of humor eludes you, please refer to Joe Huffman's recent post in which the quote of the day described something like this as the prediction of gun control groups. Of course, no gun control group suggested such a ridiculous connection, but maybe they should have.

Murder and Failed Suicide in Arizona

Fox11az.com reports on the latest example of "guns are bad news for women." I love these cases in which the man successfully kills the woman but fails to successfully kill himself.

One of the neighbors on the video said, "It just goes to show you never know what's going on in someone's home." Given that chilling fact, is it really a good idea to have guns in so many homes?
