Virginia Beach Police have launched an internal investigation after a gun was accidentally fired during a training exercise in North Carolina.

Police confirm it happened Wednesday night at the Academi Training Center in Moyock, North Carolina. You may know that facility by its former name, Blackwater.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred after training was completed Wednesday afternoon, when officers were cleaning their weapons. The Sheriff’s Office says Capt. Michael Ronan’s weapon accidentally discharged, which resulted in one officer being struck in the arm.

How in the world can someone who's trained in firarms handling do something like this? How much training does it take to remember to remove the round from the chamber FIRST?

I say such an amazing lack of competence in gun-handling should be considered criminal. Such a person should lose his rights to own and use guns.

Waldorf Astoria Wedding Shooting: Bride Plans To Sue For Millions After Hotel Cancelled Reception

Distraught bride Anna Goldschmidt was set to have a million-dollar wedding reception with groom Elan Stratiyevsky at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Manhattan when a guest accidentally fired a gun injuring another female guest. As a result of the shooting, the hotel decided to cancel the reception as police were still searching for the gun. Upon learning about the cancellation the bride let out a “blood-curling” scream and has now vowed to sue the hotel for “millions” after her big day was ruined.

“We are planning to sue the Waldorf for the costs of the wedding and the emotional harm suffered by the bride and groom, whose dream wedding was destroyed for no reason whatsoever by Waldorf personnel.”

It seems the bride and groom aren’t just planning to sue the hotel, they are also going after the man responsible for all the chaos.

“A suit is also contemplated against the shooter, whose recklessness created the havoc.”

Connecticut Dad Gets Special Probation for Shooting his 11-Year-old Son in the Face

A Monroe father, accused of accidentally shooting his 11-year-old son in the face while securing his wife’s gun, was granted a special form of probation Thursday.
 
While Superior Court Judge Earl Richards said he considered the incident to be serious, he was gratified the boy suffered no permanent injuries and said he was convinced the father, Vincent Pizzolato, would not commit criminal acts in the future. Richards granted the 44-year-old Pizzolato accelerated rehabilitation.

Under accelerated rehabilitation, Pizzolato, who was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm for the March 8 incident, did not plead guilty to the crime but was placed on two years’ probation. If he commits no crimes during that probation, the charges against him will be dismissed.

Police said Pizzolato and his wife had earlier returned home from target practice at the Bridgeport Shooting range. Pizzolato had taken both guns into the basement and, after putting his own gun into a safe, he began securing his wife’s Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun. At the time, their son was in the adjoining basement TV room playing video games.

Police said Pizzolato told them he had his wife’s gun pointed at the wall separating the two rooms as he checked the chamber and magazine, both which appeared empty. He pulled the trigger and the gun fired, the bullet piercing a plastic rifle case and the sheetrock wall before hitting his son.

South Dakota 4-Year-old with Target Shooting Group Picks Up Rifle, Kills Uncle

A 4-year-old boy, observing the men around him who were target shooting, picked up a rifle and fatally shot his uncle in a rural area of northeastern South Dakota, authorities said Saturday.

The accidental shooting death occurred late Monday near an abandoned bridge about 10 miles north of Aberdeen, killing 22-year-old Eh Thon Gar, according to Brown County Medical Examiner Michael Carlsen.

Gar, of Aberdeen, was shot in the abdomen and died the next day at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, leaving behind a wife and daughter.

“They underestimated the 4-year-old’s willingness to emulate adults,” Carlsen said Saturday.

Gar, a cousin and a friend were target shooting with .22-caliber rifles and had with them the 4-year-old and a 1-year-old, Carlsen said.

It’s “not uncommon [and is] perfectly legal” for people to find an isolated spot in South Dakota and informally target practice, Carlsen said.

Honolulu Police Officer Arrested, Released After Alleged Accidental Shooting

The Honolulu Police Department is investigating whether an officer was drinking when he allegedly shot a woman by accident at a Honolulu-area sports bar early Friday morning.

Arrest records indicate Sgt. Anson Kimura, 56, was arrested just before 2 p.m. on Saturday at police headquarters on Beretania Street. He was booked on felony assault charges and released, pending an investigation.

Authorities say Kimura's .38-caliber revolver went of at King's Sports Bar on Friday. A 40-year-old woman believed to have been an employee at the establishment was shot in the abdomen, paramedics said.

A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A Montana man is facing up to 20 years in prison after he shot and killed a 3-year-old boy in a game of “gun tag.”

Lonato Moran-Allen, 3, was playing with a toy gun Wednesday night when he pretended to shoot 26-year-old Galen Hawk. Hawk told investigators he didn’t know his .380 handgun was loaded when he picked it up and returned a shot, fatally striking the boy. He attempted to do CPR on the boy, but he later died at a nearby hospital

Texas Man Injured in Accidental Shooting

Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a man who attempted to grab a gun from a toddler in south Houston.

Patrick Sanders, 20, of Houston, was sleeping on the couch in the living room of the apartment when a gun in his pants pocket fell out and onto the floor, police said. As Sanders woke up, a three-year-old boy picked up the gun. Police said Sanders saw the child with the gun and as he tried to grab it from the boy the gun went off and Sanders was shot in the face.

The child was not injured. Sanders was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he remained Monday in critical condition.

San Antonio Cop Shoots Himself by Accident - No Charges Expected
