A Claremont man was in the Catawba County Jail on Saturday charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot a good Samaritan who was trying to help him after his car spun out on an icy road in the Bandys community, Sheriff Coy Reid said.

The car driven by Marvin Jacob Lee, 27, of Claremont in northeastern Catawba County, was stuck off Mathis Church Road when a passing truck with three men stopped to help about 5:20 p.m. Friday, Reid said.

Nearby neighbors came to help, too.

But when Lee allegedly became belligerant, the Samaritans decided to call police to come help him. “They thought he was drunk or on dope and said ‘let’s just call the law and let them deal with it,’ ” Reid said.

As they called, Lee took out an automatic pistol and started shooting. The Samaritans ran. A bullet struck the victim, who fell. Reid said Lee walked to the man, stood over him and shot him “numerous times.” Reid identified the victim as Jefferson Heavner, 26, of Newton.

Lee returned to his car, as deputies arrived. They shouted for him to get out. When he didn’t, they called a SWAT team, which pulled their armored truck up to Lee’s car. “They saw that he was passed out,” Reid said.

SWAT members physically pulled Lee from his car. He awoke as they struggled to pull him out and tried to resist, Reid said.

Texas 6-Year-old Shot

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the shooting happened while the little girl sat in her family's car. They were apparently lost and were attempting to turn around in the 4600 block of Houston Street.

The family says they were in the area looking for a tire shop. They became lost and pulled into the parking lot of some townhomes to re-route a GPS device.

Investigators say the car's headlights were shining on another car, which appeared to annoy someone inside the vehicle, described as a gray 4-door Impala. A person inside the Impala got out, walked toward the family's car and fired nine shots.

One of the bullets traveled through the car's taillight and hit the 6-year-old girl in the back.

Family Gunned Down By Stranded Driver They Were Trying To Help

A man who was stopped along a road on Montana's Crow Indian Reservation gunned down a family who tried to help him Wednesday, killing the couple and wounding their daughter, a relative said.

The FBI confirmed that two people were killed and a third injured by gunfire in Pryor, a town of just over 600 people in southern Montana. A suspect was arrested hours later in Wyoming, FBI spokesman Todd Palmer said, later identified as Jesus Deniz.

Palmer could not say what led to the shooting and did not release details about the victims.

Bryce Hugs, of Pryor, told The Billings Gazette ( http://bit.ly/1H3J5OG ) that his aunt, Tana Shane, drove by a man who had run out of gas just south of town. Shane picked up her husband, Jason, and daughter, Jora, and returned to help, Hugs said.

"(He) killed both of them and then shot the daughter," Hugs told the newspaper. "It grazed her in the head, and when she took off, (he) shot her in the back."

The shooting death of a 65-year-old man in Loveland, Colo., is the latest in a number of attacks that has left law enforcement officials and suburban residents concerned that a serial shooter has set upon at least three towns in the northern part of the state.

William Roger Connole was shot and killed at 10:52 p.m. on Wednesday night, Police Chief Luke Hecker told reporters during a Thursday afternoon news conference.

Connole's death came nearly three weeks after John Jacoby, 47, was shot and killed while riding his bike on a country road in nearby Windsor. One month before that, Cori Romero, 20, was shot in the neck while driving through Fort Collins. She survived the shooting.

Austin Shooting Suspect Dead After Firing On Downtown Buildings

A gunman fired more than 100 rounds at downtown buildings in Austin and tried to set the Mexican Consulate ablaze early Friday before he died during a confrontation with police, authorities said.

Some of the targeted buildings are near the popular Sixth Street entertainment district, where bars close at 2 a.m., about the same time the shootings began. Thousands of people are typically on the street at that time, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said.

"Many, many rounds were fired in downtown Austin," Acevedo said. "With all the people on the streets, we're very fortunate. I give thanks that no one but the suspect is injured or deceased."

Investigators identified the shooter as 49-year-old Larry McQuilliams of Austin. Police said he had a criminal record but didn't release details, and said they were still trying to determine a motive.

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department issued a statement expressing "profound concern and condemnation" of the attack, but also said "there is no evidence the shots were exclusively directed at our facility."

The gun-rights fanatics love to differentiate themselves from any gun owner who has a criminal record, as if that's some kind of anomaly. The fact is many of them do. And frequently many of them, those with clean records and those without, lose it and misuse their guns. 

Indiana Couple Charged in 6-Year-old Shooting

Police said a 6-year-old boy’s parents were arrested after lying about an accidental shooting in Muncie.

According to Lt Steve Cox with the Muncie Police Department, on Thursday night, officers were called to IU Ball Memorial Hospital on the report that a 6-year-old boy was shot.

The boy’s parents, Lamotta Roundtree, 34, and Elisha Wolfe, 35, told officers that their 15-year-old niece, who was babysitting their son, found a gun in the alley behind their house. They said the girl picked up the gun and it went off, shooting the boy in the groin.

Officers later determined that the 15-year-old girl found the gun inside of the home. Roundtree is a convicted felon who couldn’t have a gun in his home, according to Cox.

Police arrested Roundtree and Wolfe on Thursday night on the following charges:

• Aiding or inducing criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
• Child neglect
• Obstruction of justice

Police seized an Arlington elementary school parent's gun following an "unsettling interaction" where the parent showed the principal his gun license, officials said.

Police say Robert Goodwin, Jr., 41, of Ryder Street pulled out his gun license during an argument Wednesday with Stratton Elementary Principal Michael Hanna. Goodwin also referenced he had access to firearms, police told news partner Wicked Local.

Goodwin has not been charged with a crime, but police seized Goodwin’s gun license and an unspecified firearm from his apartment Friday morning, according to Arlington police Chief Fred Ryan. Goodwin has also been served an order to stay away from the elementary school, where his child is a student.

Ohio Man Shoots Toddler In The Head During Fight With Child's Mother

Cleveland police say a man fatally shot his 2-year-old son in the head when he fired into the window of a home during a dispute with the child's mother.

Police say the boy was standing on a landing when he was struck early Tuesday and was taken to a hospital, where he died. The Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County medical examiner's office identified the child as Derrice Alexander Jr., of Cleveland.

Police say his father fled the scene and was later arrested but wasn't immediately charged.

Police Chief Calvin Williams says the man is a convicted felon and should not have had a weapon. He declined to give details about that criminal record.

Williams says the man seemed to be cooperating with investigators. They're trying to determine where he got the gun.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Who Shot and Killed his Pregnant Wife Faces No Charges

Authorities won't file charges against a Pennsylvania state trooper who shot and killed his pregnant wife at their suburban Philadelphia home.

A three-month investigation found that Joseph Miller's gun went off as he tried to clean it at home in East Norriton.

The bullet struck his wife in the head. Both 34-year-old Joanna Miller and her 22-week-old fetus died.

The Montgomery County district attorney's office concluded the March 7 shooting was negligent but accidental.

Authorities said in a news release Friday that all evidence indicated the Millers were "a close-knit, loving family excited about the pending arrival of a new baby." They had four other children.

Las Vegas Spree Shooting - Not a Gun Free Zone - 5 Dead

Two police officers and a civilian were shot to death in Las Vegas on Sunday during a rampage that began in a CiCi’s Pizza restaurant.

Police said the officers killed were Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31.

The attackers — a man and a woman believed to be a couple — walked into the CiCi’s and opened fire around 11:30 a.m., local time, as Beck and Soldo were eating lunch, according to police.

“They were ambushed,” Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie said at a news conference Sunday.

Witnesses told police that before shooting at the police officers, the man yelled: “This is the start of a revolution.”

The shooters then reportedly took the officer’s weapons and ammunition and headed into the Walmart.

Once inside the store, the male shooter yelled, “Everyone get out!,” and then started shooting, Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill said in a news conference. Police said one person, who has not been identified, was shot and killed in the Walmart.

The two shooters then went to the back of the store, where they reportedly killed themselves.

“There was some sort of suicide pact,” McMahill said.

According to a report in the Las Vegas Review Journal, police are looking into the couple’s links to the white supremacy movement and found swastika symbols during their initial investigation.

Georgia Sovereign Citizen Killed By Deputy while Trying to Take Over the Court House

Authorities shot and killed a sovereign citizen Friday morning outside a Georgia courthouse after he brought weapons and explosives in an attempt to take over the building.

Investigators said Dennis Marx arrived at the Forsyth County Administration Building with an assault rifle, bulletproof vest, smoke grenades, and a gas mask.

Marx also brought water and other supplies, ammunition, zip-tie restraints, and buckets of homemade explosives to the courthouse, said Sheriff Duane Piper.

“He came here with the purpose of occupying the courthouse,” Piper said.

He deployed stop sticks at the courthouse entrance to prevent other vehicles from driving closer and opened fire from his vehicle.

Marx was met outside the courthouse by a deputy – who distracted and then fatally shot him through the windshield of the man’s SUV.

The deputy, a 30-year veteran, was shot in the knee during the confrontation but was expected to recover.

Just last fall, Jalon Bea and Tanielu Lotovaivai were young men going places.

Described as affable, ambitious and hard-working, both had bright futures ahead of them, their families and friends said.

Lotovaivai’s decision to point what he thought was an unloaded gun at Bea and pull the trigger ended all that.

Bea, 17, died after being shot in the chest. Lotovaivai was arrested and earlier this year pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

On Friday, all the pain and misery that decision spawned came to a head in Pierce County Superior Court, where Lotovaivai was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Tears flowed freely on both sides of the gallery.

A man with a shotgun walked into a building on the Seattle Pacific University campus, shot three people, fatally wounding one, and was reloading when a student security guard pepper-sprayed him and he and other students disarmed him, Seattle police said.  The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old white male, was taken into custody.

Law enforcement sources later identified the suspect as Aaron Ybarra, 26, of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.

Police said the suspect was not a student at the school.  “So far, police have not found any connection between the suspect, Seattle Pacific University or any of the victims,” a police news release said.

He is going to booked into the King County Jail for investigation of murder, police said.

Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center said it had received four patients from the shooting: One of those, a 19-year-old man, died of his wounds, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said. She added that a female in her 20s was undergoing surgery and was in critical condition. Two other men in their 20s were in satisfactory condition, adding that one of those appeared to have only minor physical injuries but was going through emotional trauma.

Police say shoppers at a Phoenix Wal-Mart store were sent into a panic after a man accidentally shothimself in the leg.

Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes says a male shopper's gun, which was at his hip, went off around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at a Wal-Mart near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Holmes says Wal-Mart managers evacuated the store, which was shut down for a short time.

Holmes says the man is not facing any charges.

Marine Veteran Hopes for Release from Tijuana Prison

Just heard about this one.  Should fire up the faithful.  The consensus around here is the guy most likely had been drinking because it is very difficult to miss the border into Mexico.  Still, some claim it is plausible.  Interstate Freeway Five terminates at the Mexican border, but there are numerous signs warning of the approaching border, a sign that warns last U.S. exit and even a last ditch U-turn that leaves you in U.S. soil.

This guy just blew right up to the Mexico-U.S.A. border at San Ysidro and actually told Mexican Customs that he had three guns in the car.  Languishing in the Tijuana Penitentiary System awaiting trial.  They will no doubt figure out a way to send him home once he appears before a judge.  One funny thing about this story.  He actually tried to escape by climbing a wall and the Mexican guard was able to scare him back by firing into the wall instead of trying to kill him.  I think he wants the American Embassy to save him.

Andrew Tahmooressi said he was hoping for a new beginning when he drove from Florida to California in March, with all of his worldly possessions inside his Ford F-150 truck. The 25-year-old Marine reservist had dropped out of college, broken up with his girlfriend, and was uncertain of his future.

But a trip to Mexico certainly was not part of his plan, he said.

Tahmooressi is being held in a Tijuana prison on federal weapons charges — all the result, he said, of missing the last exit on Interstate 5 and accidentally crossing the border with three firearms.

“I never meant to be in Mexico,” Tahmooressi said in an interview Saturday afternoon at the La Mesa State Penitentiary. “I had no bad intentions, I had no intentions of smuggling my weapons, I had no intentions of selling them or anything of the sort.”

The charges include possession of two firearms meant for exclusive use of the Mexican military; bail is not permitted. If convicted, he faces six to 21 years in a Mexican prison, said his Tijuana attorneys.

Tahmooressi’s arrest in Mexico came less than two weeks after arriving in San Diego from Daytona Beach, where he had most recently been living. He had abandoned studies to be a pilot, then a mechanical engineer, and had recently broken up with his girlfriend. He had driven across the country with everything he owned, including a motorcycle, bicycle and three firearms: a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45 caliber pistol, and an AR-15, all registered.
