Gallup recently released a poll showing that gun ownership had declined from polls they had taken in an earlier time period. That number is inconsistent with the number of firearms that have been sold since President Obama took residency, but the difference can be answered by the Zogby Analytic question above. The poll indicates maintaining anonymity is a contributing factor

South Dakota man is currently in custody after telling police officers he was shot in the penis by a “black guy” when he actually shot himself while attempting to purchase a gun illegally.

Convicted felon Donald Anthony Watson, 43, was admitted to a local emergency room late at night on Sept. 6  for a gunshot wound to his penis, and told local law enforcement that he had been shot during a botched robbery.

According to the arrest report, Watson said he was shot by “a black guy (who) tried to rob” him while he was taking out the trash at his apartment.

Pressed by police, Watson admitted that he made the story up and was looking at a handgun he was thinking about buying and placed it in his pocket where it went off, with the bullet hitting his genitals.

Watson — who refused to tell police where the gun disappeared to — has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a drug offender, and two counts of false reports to law enforcement.

Can they do that, charge him with possession of a gun that has disappeared ?

A laughing teen gunman being hunted on charges of shooting two girls on a Jacksonville school bus Thursday has been identified as a 16-year-old nomad angry about being spit on as he and two friends readied to fight some other passengers, police said.

The two 16-year-old victims, one shot through both cheeks and the other in the back of the head, remained hospitalized in fair condition Friday. 

The Westside attack on a bus carrying students from three alternative schools occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on 118th Street just outside the front gate of Ringhaver Park. 

Police early Friday afternoon identified the gunman as Edgar Robles, 16, who is charged in arrest warrants with two counts of attempted murder and one count of throwing a deadly missile. Police were hunting him citywide and said he is known to live roaming from place to place in the city, said Sheriff’s Office Director Tom Hackney.

I thought they weren't allowed to use a picture of a minor?

My main question is  where did the gun come from.  As Baldr always says, every gun in the hands of a kid has to pass through the hands of an adult.  I would go even further.  Every gun used in a crime started out the legal property of some lawful gun owner.  Because these guys enjoy such loose gun laws, and because they are so irresponsible, their guns flow into the criminal world like the mighty Mississippi.

Constitutional Carry Proposed in Indiana

 I came across this and to me at least it sounds like it might have potential for success, at least politically. 

"State Rep. Jim Lucas (R) has filed legislation that would repeal Indiana’s current concealed carry permit program in favor of free and lawful unlicensed carry.

The bill introduced would strike down the state’s popular handgun permitting scheme as enforced by the Indiana State Police, replacing it with language allowing unlicensed or so-called constitutional carry in the state of 6.5 million. Just four other states have similar laws."

"With some 570,712 permits issued, Indiana has one of the highest rates of lawful concealed carry in the nation. According to a 2014 report from the Crime Prevention Research Center, only South Dakota has a higher percent of the eligible population that has a permit. A large part of this is due to the state’s historically low cost for permits, ranging from $10-$50 that include an option for lifetime carry."

Georgia Legalizes Handgun Vending Machines

Come on, admit it.  Nothing like easy access to firearms, right?

In a ceremony today in Atlanta, Gov. Nathan Deal signed the Firearms Freedom and Accessibility Act (FFAA), which allows the sale of handguns in automated machines that accept cash, credit and debit cards.

The machines will be installed in grocery stores, convenience stores, bars, schools, airports and gas stations. They aren’t required to verify buyers’ identity and won’t perform background checks.

“Millions of people in Georgia lack access to quality firearms,” the governor said in a signing statement. “This bill will finally bring handguns from top manufacturers into every neighborhood and hopefully every household.

“By helping more Georgians to defend themselves, we expect this bill to lower crime significantly. By the end of my second term murder, rape and armed robbery should be nearly eradicated.”

The legislation comes just months after Georgia significantly loosened its gun laws. In April, Deal signed a so-called “guns everywhere” law which allowed registered gun owners to take their weapons nearly anywhere, including bars and government buildings.

BTW, I do know this is satire, but it's the can gun loons get any crazier than satire thing.  I know it's really hard to tell whether gunloons are crazy or engaging in self-parody.

Florida Judge: Schools Can Ban Guns from Dormatories

Universities are justified in banning guns in residence halls, a judge has ruled in a case that challenged the University of Florida's policy.

The gun-rights group Florida Carry Inc., which has filed suit against several universities and municipalities, argued in a suit filed in January that the state law making it legal to possess a firearm at home trumped another that bans weapons on school property.

But Alachua County Circuit Judge Toby Monaco entered a summary judgment on Wednesday stating that UF and President Bernie Machen were not violating Florida law by recognizing the Legislature's prohibition against guns in housing on university property.

Florida Carry last year won a decision by the 1st District Court of Appeal asserting that the Legislature has sole jurisdiction for gun policy, and universities could not ban weapons stored in vehicles.

“Unlike the right to have a firearm in a vehicle, the Legislature's recognition of a person's right to possess a firearm in a home does not extend to a residence hall on a university campus,” Monaco said in this week's order. “There is no exception in (state law) for a residence hall like there is for a vehicle.”

The university released a statement saying it was pleased with the ruling.

“The University of Florida fully complies with Florida law that allows individuals 18 years or older to store their guns securely in vehicles while on campus, as determined by a 1st DCA decision last year, and the university will continue to do so,” the statement said. “Florida law otherwise bans guns on university, college and K-12 campuses and at their events, with limited exceptions such as for law enforcement.”
