Paul Helmke's Steady Consistent Message

This was at the NRA gun rally last month. I find it more and more difficult to understand the animosity of gun rights folks towards this man. He's a paragon of reasonable discourse and common sense.

Except for his “steady consistent” out of context quoting of “the guys with the guns make the rules”. “The guys” in Lapierre’s quote is not NRA members, but rather the “bad guys”.

  2. Sorry TS, I don't think that's right. When gun folks use that stupid line, including La Pierre, they're talking about themselves in an adolescent school-yard kind of way. It's in the same spirit as Charlston Heston's famous remark.

  6. For 2 minutes and 26 seconds, the video clip portrayed a paragon of reasonable discourse and common sense.

What a shame that his actions and statements are not always so.

I don't claim that Helmke is evil. I object to certain actions and statements by him or his organization, and I cite examples.

  7. I find it endlessly fascinating that the people who only have bad things to say about Paul Helmke have only good things or nothing at all to say about Glenn Bek. Oh, wait, Bek doesn't have anything to do with the NRA--well, except for showing up as guest speaker at their little event this week.

I certainly don't agree with Mr. Helmke's views on a lot of things, but he's sane--Bek is not.

  9. I'm fascinated that a discussion about Paul Helmke is suddenly now about Glenn Beck. How did that happen?

    Beck Derangement Syndrome.

  11. Mr. Bek made it about Mr. Bek, by being considered by the NRA to have something of value to say.
