Louis Farrakhan Speaks

The Daily News reports

Louis Farrakhan, the fiery leader of the Nation of Islam, directed his ire at New York City’s black community on Monday, saying it must take responsibility for the scourge of gun violence.

“They are building prisons, and who are they for? Not for the white man,” he told an almost entirely black crowd at the Van Dyke Houses in Brownsville, Brooklyn. “Nobody cares about you. You are the product of your former slave masters. You are not as bad as you are acting.”

“You ain’t manufacturing no guns, but you got some,” the minister said in a sermonic speech dubbed, “Stop the Killing.”

“Your people are being herded into a life-style — that is going to jail.”
He ages better than Dick Clark.

  1. Stable families and strong values -- including the value of life and a solid work ethic -- are the first item necessary to combat crime and violence. The second item to combat crime and violence is opportunity for education and gainful business/work. The third item necessary to combat crime and violence is a society that holds people accountable for their actions -- whether those people are citizens, corporations, or government agents.

Find which of those are failing and correct them. Then the crime and violence problems to which Mr. Farrakhan speaks will go away.

    1. Edit: the crime and violence problems will greatly diminish. (There will always be some level of crime and violence no matter how perfect a society.)

  2. He's calling for people to take responsibility for themselves and to stop blaming others for their problems. Sounds productive to me.

  3. Two other things to note:

    1. Louis Farrakhan has a cloud of suspicion over him regarding the assassination of Malcolm X, but perhaps he really has found religion now.

    2. Any guesses as to how many of the fellows with dark glasses and earpieces have guns under their coats?
