South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who, as a member of the legislature in 2006, supported the death penalty for repeat sex offenders, was back in the news yesterday revealing that she also backs a measure that would make it legal to carry a handgun openly or concealed without a permit, according to The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.

Haley’s remarks came during a bill signing in which she inked legislation that will allow armed citizens to carry in restaurants and bars, provided they don’t drink alcohol, and that firearms are not prohibited by the businesses. That contrasts with Washington law, which allows carry in restaurants, but not lounges or taverns. South Carolina gun prohibitionists were not happy.

Let's see if I got it all.  She's for executing the mentally ill sex offenders in addition to carrying guns in bars AND constitutional carry?  Wow, what a state.

  1. Call it mentally ill if you want, but if a person's particular loose screw causes that person to violate the bodies of others, the death penalty is appropriate. But what kind of priorities do you have if you are against good citizens exercising their rights, while feeling sorry for sex offenders?

    1. It's not a question of "feeling sorry" for them. It's a question of recognizing where mental illness impacts on criminal behavior and dealing with the offenders appropriately. As you know, I'm opposed to capital punishment in any case, but especially in those in which the offender is suffering from some form of mental incapacity. A guy like that does not have the same free choice as others. He needs to be stopped and prevented from re-offending, but he does not deserve death.

    2. Then put the degenerate behind bars for life. Sexual offenders--and I'm talking here about rapists and child molesters, not some guy who peed behind a bush--have a high recitivism rate, and it's easy to predict that if someone commits a lesser sexual offense, more and more violent ones will be done. But the fact is that these people don't meet the standard of mental incapacity in our legal system. They know what they are doing is wrong. They simply don't care.

    3. Child molesters cannot be rehabilitated according to the professionals, so the death penalty should apply.

    4. Longer prison sentences for sure. But execution, no.

    5. I'm tired of paying to many taxes. The prisons are overflowing now. Get rid of some of them. It sickens me to pay for Charlie Manson to live in prison for 40 years when he was scheduled to be executed. While my utilities get shut off because there's not enough money left after high taxes take my income.

  2. Isn't she a very popular governor with the people in SC? Apparently this is the type of laws the citizens want to see so she is doing a good job representing their wishes right?

  3. We know for a fact the State has executed innocent people. Another Gov. has halted executions in his State, because of that fact. Executing the mentally ill, is just plain wrong. But I understand you approve since you approve of illegal acts like beating people up, and of course your motto that "revenge is justice."
