1. Licensing of all gun owners which would include a penal background
check, a mental health background check, an eye exam, a written and
practical test and approval by the local authorities (may-issue
licensing).
2. Registration of all newly bought firearms which would need to be renewed after three months and yearly thereafter by presenting the paperwork and the weapon to the police.
3. Background checks on all purchases including private ones. This can be done at the local FFL dealer for a nominal fee.
4. Three day waiting period for all first purchases. (to be removed as unnecessary after rule 1)
5. "May Issue" policy for concealed carry permits managed federally - same rules in every state.
6. Assault Weapons Ban using the California model which would include restrictions on extended magazines.

Add, insurance, to cover the cost of unpaid (or tax payer paid) medical bills from gun shot.
ReplyDeleteSo you want people to be able to shoot someone (not in self defense) and only pay a deductible?
DeleteOf course the fanatics would desperately oppose it, gun insurance for gun owners should be mandatory. I'll add it.
DeleteHmm . . . "by popular demand," eh?
ReplyDeleteColor me skeptical.
But not nearly as skeptical as I am of such an abomination ever becoming law in the free states.
The majority of the voices in his head wanted him to post it again.
Delete"May Issue" policy for concealed carry permits managed federally - same rules in every state."
ReplyDeleteConsidering that right now we have a potential court battle coming up regarding the constitutionality of "may issue" you might was to hold off on that. Considering that the majority of states in the union are "shall issue" giving this a try might be interesting. National level shall issue carry permits with of course reciprocity in every state. The only states that would complain would be the "Constitutional carry" states, and of course, "no carry" states like Jersey.
My list of proper gun control laws has nothing to do with the current situation of what's likely to happen in the short term. These are the ideals we will eventually aspire to.
DeleteNeat idea overall.
ReplyDeleteFirst question... how do you plan on getting the criminals to comply?
Second question... Who is going to enforce this plan? Local police? State Police? Federal Police?
Third question, depending on the answer to the second.... at what cost and to whom?
That's a tired argument. You must be one of those drive-by shooters.
DeleteMost gun owners are law abiding. Laws are aimed at them. Your pretend first question is an insult to anyone with half-a-brain.
