2 Dead in Florida - Longtime Friends

The police aren't releasing enough details yet, but some think it was a murder suicide.

Lt. Tod Goodyear of the sheriff’s office said his department was piecing together the information in the case.
“One of them was renting a place from the other, that is my understanding. There was some bad blood between the two,” he said.

Bad blood, or whatever, in Florida these things are straightened out with a gun.

What's your opinion?  Does Florida's being a gun friendly state have something to do with this?

Please leave a comment.

  3. Tell me about DC and Chicago. Not gun friendly at all, what are those city murder stats again?

  4. ASM: Much less than the very gun-friendly city of New Orleans.

    Pleased to have helped.

  5. It is less this year, Jade. What about all the multiple years that DC and Chicago (and L.A., let's not forget them!) led the list?

Or was that just some sort of fluke, while NOLA's leading the list this one time isn't? Hmmm?

    Jade you're almost there!

What do all these cities have in common?

    Gangs.

Just for a fun exercise show me a city or an area with minimal gang activity (zero is probably close to impossible) with a high homicide rate.

I suspect you'll ignore me, which is even more telling an answer

  7. Mikey W: Yes, NOLA's gun murder numbers have gone down this year. It is now only about twice the murder rate of DC and only 4 times that of Chicago. Yay. All those guns are working.

Weerd: Hate to break it to you but all major cities (and many not-so major cities) have gangs. Why, the very gun-unfriendly NYC has a ton of gangs.

By now you're wheezing--Jade didn't answer my question! Of course, I did but you're just too simple to realize it. You're trying to make the case that those cities with minimal gang activity also have low homicide rates. Thus, gangs=homicide. But, with my NYC example, we see lots of gang activity and relatvely low homicide rates. Of course, cities with minimal gang activity also tend to be cities with minimal populations.

No problem! I'll keep it up indefinitely until you attempt to do just that on me first!

Probably scared of your mysterious abilities. Who knew donut eating was a martial art?

    Ruffy: Don't I wish.

My guranteed survival, though, isn't so much my astounding abilities as it is Weerd's shortcomings.

Being a law-abiding citizen is a "Shortcoming" now?

You have been hanging out under MikeB's skirts a little too long.

Judging by the tire you carry around your waist, you'd probably be a 6th degree black belt.

  15. I agree that where there are gangs there are murders. Other factors include unemployment, poor educational opportunities, drugs, and many other things. The factor I'm most interested in, though, is gun availability. That's because it's the most concrete one, about which the most can be done quickly. We're already working on all the other factors which contribute to criminal violence, now it's time we begin doing more to keep guns in the hands of responsible people, like you commenters, and away from the criminals.

    How's that sound?

    Remember this story?

Convicted criminal is found in a house filled with drugs and guns, in one of the most restrictive gun states (#3 Brady Ranked) and no weapons charges are filed.

    You applaud this.

    You are full of shit.
