My very first pistol was a cap and ball Colt
Shoot as fast as lightnin' but it loads a mite slow
Loads a mite slow and soon I found out
It can get you into trouble but it can't get you out
Then I went and bought myself a Colt 45
Called a peacemaker but I never knew why
Never knew why, I didn't understand
Cause Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand
Golly, you mean guns and alcohol don't mix? That is some wise advice. Though I think Johnny was singing about earlier times.
ReplyDeleteSteve Earle did a better version in a cover of "Devil's Right Hand."
ReplyDeleteYou really do know your music, G, I mean for a conservitive gun nut.
DeleteHis song, Copperhead Road, is a good one, too.
DeleteWell, Laci, so long as we're grabbing songs and quotes, what about the first bit of this?

I'm not surprised you like that one. That's what owning a gun is all about, right T.?
DeleteHumor, Mike. I was tossing out a counterpoint for fun because I've seen the quote around the internet. Hell no, you don't shoot someone for burning your flag. You DO chase them off your property with a sufficiently thick Forsythia switch.
DeleteActually, and try not to faint, I like "Don't take your guns to town."
Hadn't heard the other song before.
Johnny Cash is one of the best. What doesn't surprise me is that Laci misses the complexity of his music and message.
