The 2013 Bad Penny Award for gross hypocrisy on the right: Remember the Sarah Palin/ Bristol and Willow Palin/ David Letterman 'scandal' of 2009?

By Dog Gone and Cross posted from Penigma (this is attribution--got that?):

A lot of people refer to the religious and political right as the western equivalent of the Taliban.  The legislation against women and children, both in mandating intrusive, unwarranted medical procedures, and to require factually inaccurate medical information be provided, as well as attempts to suppress the scientific research of reproduction and human sexuality. So, it is clearly hypocritical of Sarah Palin to be supporting this guy's 'free speech' content, as long as he doesn't mention one of her own underage daughters by name:

Phil just LOVES shooting and killing things.
"My idea of happiness is killing things! boom boom boom! "
His attitudes about women and sex are equally primitive, focusing only on physical reproduction and male pleasure:

“It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man’s anus," Robertson told GQ. "That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
On the one hand, he thinks all men should be vaginally oriented, with no other sexual options.

The right, particularly the far right, holds beliefs that amount to a pro-rape culture, one which views women and girls as a commodity for their pleasure, not as full and equal human beings with minds and emotions that should be developed and fulfilled for their advancement, rather than servicing males.

Conservatives like this jerk like to use the Bible to justify bad things, ranging from misrepresenting slavery and the Jim Crow laws, to justifying pedophilia and statutory rape to a god given right to guns and violence.  We see it from Palin, we see it from Phil Robertson here.

They do the same thing with the founding fathers.  That claim about the quotation from George Washington is totally false.  It has been debunked here, at Snopes.
The complete quote that's (incorrectly, it turns out) attributed to Washington is,

"It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."

Paul Boller and John George, who co-wrote They Never Said It: A Book of Fake Quotes, Misquotes, & Misleading Attributions, indicate that no one's found any evidence that Washington ever wrote or spoke such a thing. And Boller's written separately on the topic of "Washington and Religion" before, so he would know.

(I see that some sites on the Internet maintain that Washington issued this statement on 17 September 1796, which happens to be the date on which he delivered his famous farewell address. That line in nowhere to be found in his farewell.)

We've touched on that here before, in particular the rural Minnesota culture of guns and the exploitation of very young girls. It is unique to the misogyny of conservatives, along with the utterly despicable notions of masculinity and femininity. The date for the trial of one of the prosecutors involve in a gun fight in the courthouse over the statutory rape of an underage girl, where that prosecutor, Tim Scannell is himself now on trial for the same thing, has been postponed to later this month after a change of venue. Read that here.

No one should be surprised at the close correlation between conservative sexual perverts and the obsession with guns. They go together.

No one should be surprised at the revisionist history with fake facts either; because the facts and objective reality are not the friends of the red neck conservatives.

An example? Here is another comment made by Phil Robertson, where he demonstrates he has no idea about either religion and history than he does religion and biology.:

“For the sake of the Gospel, it was worth it,” Phil tells me. “All you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.”

What passes for wisdom and knowledge among conservatives is so badly flawed, that we do not dare let these people determine the course of our country. They are making us less secure, less competitive, less productive, and definitely lowering the national level of intelligent discussion. They are sick AND stupid.

  2. Mostly, I agree with this. Some in this country do have a false view of our Founders with regard to religion and the nation's laws. The people who built this country understood that an official religion was just another form of tyranny. This article does exaggerate somewhat the view that those on the right hold about women, but I agree that a woman must have the right to control her own body and that minors are not old enough to marry.

However, the religious right is not the whole of the Republican Party, nor does it represent all conservatives. And despite what Dog Gone's obsession with guns tells her, the attitude expressed here isn't one that gun-rights advocates necessarily hold, either.

    1. Funny how the whole Republican party goes along with and votes with the religious right.

    2. " a woman must have the right to control her own body and that minors are not old enough to marry."

Generally, these types of statements are fraught with fraudulence. Women have the right to their bodies until it comes to making a few bucks off of it. Let them try to engage in the oldest profession and then they get their ass thrown in the slammer.

Then there are those young ladies who have experienced menarche. Oh, sure, they can get a job at the mall, pay taxes, have sex and give birth, but can't get married. Or, make a few bucks practicing that oldest profession and what happens? Same thing, throw away that liberty, that freedom and.throw them in jail.
Everyone likes to talk about freedom and liberty, just as long as those seeking it observe someone else's qualifications, which is not freedom or liberty at all.

    7. Mr. Camp, you are arguing that life & liberty have an arbitrary age attached to them.
In the early 20th Century, that arbitrary age was 10 -12 with Delaware's age 7.
It appears that you, like some legislators don't trust Nature to do its job.

    10. It's hard to take Greg seriously when he is so uneducated about the issue. His lie simply shows how stupid he is, as if that was necessary after reading all the lies and promoting criminal activity he has stated on this site. The fact that he is an insulting ass hole, is just another trait of liars.

I DO hate ignorance, and bigotry, and Phil overflows with it.

When I saw this statement I had to look to make sure you really meant my home state. Especially when you discuss the conservative politics and gun culture here. An illustration of how conservative Minnesota is that the last time the state's electoral votes went to a Republican was in 1972.
Cook County, where Scannell lives is also a secure DFL stronghold in what is called "The Iron Range" While the position of County Attorney is a nonpartisan position, if all of the other elected officials in that area are DFL, who do you think elected him?
I did find several articles regarding Scannell, and also an article regarding the phenomenon of older men pursuing high school age girls, however, none seem to mention political party or call them conservative.

    http://www.mprnews.org/story/2013/10/31/tim-scannell-charged-criminal-sexual-conduct

Sexual exploitation of minors should be stepped on hard, no matter what their age or politics, and it appears that this will be happening soon in this case. If convicted, I look forward to his spending a long period of time if some fine state supported accommodations with whatever roommate he's assigned.

    1. "Rural Minnesota culture" wouldn't necessarily affect the elections. So, maybe she has a point. You certainly didn't debunk it with that talk about political elections.

    3. Mike, DG took a very informative article and added her own opinions and threw in a link to conservatives and guns out of thin air, the article makes no mention of ideological beliefs because the exploitation of children knows no political affiliation.

    4. There is a clear subculture, to which I referred, and it has been well documented. It is a conservative subculture in a Democratic state, that transcends democratic regions.

I'd also point out that the same part of Minnesota elected a tea bagger almost as bad as Bachmann, the ol' Chip off the New Hampshire block.

These would comprise a good segment of his supporters.

    5. Minnesota had a Republican Governor and a majority Republican house, which passed Pawlenty's policies, for years. Pawleny came into office with a 600 million dollar surplus and left office with a 5-1/2 Billion dollar debt. A horrible record, which is why he bombed running for president.

      Delete
    6. The state also had a wrestler as a governor and has sent a comedian to the Senate. But it's also the home to A Prairie Home Companion, so a little tolerance is in order.

      Delete
    7. The wrestler was the one who left Pawlenty a 600 million dollar surplus.
      So what's your point?
You don't think a wrestler can run a State?
I guess you are all for professional politicians, who are wrecking our economy and government.
It's better than sending a felon to the Congress, which Republicans have done twice.

    8. The observation about guns and a subculture of old men who pursue young girls in that part of the state of MN (and who embrace extreme gun culture) has been well documented by multiple reporters, including an extensive set of interviews done by MPR on the topic. Here is one example.

      http://www.mprnews.org/story/2012/02/27/grand-marais-older-men-pursuing-teen-girls

ssgmarkcr consistently demonstrates his ignorance, and the limited range of his own experience, from which he mistakenly extrapolates on the faulty premise that the rest of the world is similarly limited.

    9. DG, if you look up at one of my posts, you'll see that I already cited this article. Perhaps I'm just grading on a curve, but when you use the term "old men", I think of people like Mr. Robertson. However, in the article we both cited now, the oldest person mentioned was the one convicted of criminal sexual conduct, who was 42 when he was quite rightfully convicted of having sex with a 15 year old girl.
The rest of the article discusses high school girls getting into relationships with men up to their 30's. And it also accurately mentions that in Minnesota, the age of consent is 16. The article doesn't mention that a person in a position of authority over the victim can also be charged with criminal sexual conduct. Perhaps this is how Mr. Scannell got charged.
So there seems to be a murkey area in which a minor has legal control over their sexual activity, yet in some cases are assumed to not have the ability to make these decisions due to the partner's position of power over them.
So what would you suggest happen to the other young people who are currently legally having sex with men up to their 30's? Perhaps raise the age of consent to 18, where they are legal adults? Mike often states here that people must be constrained by law, and both you and the article cited that this seems to be a problem.

    16. If you read MORE than one article, and if you do your own original homework, you will find that ages range from men in their 30s on up to their 60s and older.

It has been speculated, quite plausibly, for example, that the old geezer who had been inviting teens (both male and female) to hang out on his premises, who then shot two of them -- one of them female -- over Thanksgiving in 2012 may have had that same kind of relationship, given the rage implicit in the manner he shot her, repeatedly, and because of his claim that even after she was severely injured "she laughed" at him, according to his eventual statement.

Old is relative; when the girls involved are 13, 14, 15, and the guy is 45, 3 times her age, they are relatively OLD.

    17. TS, he lives in Minnesota. I identified the story as MPR - Minnesota Public Radio.

That is not the ONLY story about the problems with this sub-culture/gun culture in that part of northern Minnesota. It has been around, as a problem, for a long, long time.

What is significant here is that it is conservative, it is a culture that purports to be Bible thumping, and it involves both guns and very young girls (relative to the men seeking sex with them).
