Eric Holder's Inability to Pass Gun Control

Breitbart

Harris-Perry looked at Holder and said, “You once said the worst day in office was the day that you had to walk through the bloodied aftermath” following the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. She said, “Children were slaughtered in their classrooms and we have not made any meaningful progress on changing the access to guns in this country. Are we a nation of cowards when it comes to guns?”

Holder responded:
Well, I’ll say this, [walking through the school] was the worst day I had as Attorney General. It is, I think the single failure that I point to in my time as Attorney General, that I was not able to… convince Congress to really follow the will of the American people — which was to enact meaningful, reasonable, gun safety measures. The gun lobby simply won.
Holder went to say he does not believe America is a “nation of cowards,” but he does believe “members of Congress need to have a little more backbone and stand up to what is a distinct minority, even within… the NRA.”

I think that there is this perception of this monolithic NRA that doesn't really live up to real life, simply because there is a much larger total than simple membership numbers suggest.
There is, in my opinion, a much larger number of politically active gun rights advocates that work within groups at the state level, such as I do, and even individually by contributing directly to candidates and making their voices heard to there elected representatives, which I also do.
And all of these groups have a much more profound and diverse effect as evidenced by what is mentioned in the last paragraph of the article,

"He did not address the resounding defeat Americans dealt to gun control and gun control candidates during the 2014 midterm elections. In one fell swoop they took the Senate away from Democrats, increased the Republican majority in the House and expanded the number of pro-gun governors across the country."

    1. Interesting how NRA membership is only part of the picture.

    2. Gun law was not even in the top 10 issues of the 2014 election. Gun loons think Obama is evil just for bringing up that America has a gun problem amid all the mass murders that have taken place while he has been president. Right, he is so evil. HA HA HA

I know Fred, it only seems to count when the gun control lobby's chosen candidates won in the few victories they had. Then it was a triumph against the NRA. Where they lost, it was because of other issues.
It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in 2016.

    4. I would say the same to them SS, but you continue to say gun issues were "THE" issue in 2014. Another gun loon delusion.

    5. I don't think I've ever said its the only issue Fred, though I do think it plays a larger role than Mike believes. Everyone must make that decision on their own. For example, ask yourself if a liberal candidate ran that followed straight down the DFL platform on every issue with the exception of supporting Constitutional carry. Would you vote for him?
To be honest, that's one I'll have to ponder myself for a bit. It does promise to give you an idea on how important a certain issue is to you in the grand scheme of things.
Currently though, whatever issues voters used to make their decisions, the majority of the winning candidates also seemed to support gun rights. And that's good enough for me.

    6. It's totally dishonest of you to claim the winners won on a gun law platform when that was just not the case. The fact that the winners also support certain gun laws doesn't mean those issues were important issues in the election. That's like saying Democrats won the White House the last two presidential elections because they support not cutting food stamps. I'll bet Obama agrees food stamps should not be cut, but it wasn't an issue in either election, nor was it why he won.
Guns are YOUR issue so apparently YOU want to pretend that's why Republicans won, buy it's just a lie.

You shouldn't get too wrapped around the axle in regards to the Democrat/Republican thing. In fact, in the midterm elections, the gun rights group I'm a member of endorsed a DFL candidate based on his positions for gun rights.
So would you agree that this person is wrong also in claims regarding gun issues?

“In states with a high number of voters who own guns, like New Hampshire, Oregon, Maine, New Mexico and Minnesota, senators who voted for the Manchin-Toomey bill to expand background checks were re-elected,” Murphy’s letter said.
Soto Lamb said the midterm elections served as a myth buster.
“We showed in this election that guns were not a third rail of politics,” she said. “It used to be if you voted against the NRA, you were through.”
Murphy and fellow gun-control supporters also point to the recapture of two state House seats in Colorado that had been lost in the recalls of lawmakers who supported the state’s tough new gun laws.
Murphy also said that in Oregon and Minnesota, nearly all candidates backed by Everytown for Gun Safety won their races.
“The majority of candidates supported by Gabby Giffords’ organization won their races, as well,” Murphy said."

    8. As I said, I call their claims bogus just as much as yours. Guns were not a national issue, and just because they might have been an issue in a few races still doesn't make it so.

  3. The Democrats haven't been able to pass hardly anything because of Republican obstructionism. We seem to forget the last Congress went down in history as the worst Congress ever, but of course, now they want to blame Obama for Congresses inaction also. WOW. Just like blaming Obama for Bush's fiscal policies that almost ruined America.
