In case you haven't figured it out...

I tend to write posts before I post them.  Often, when MikeB asks me to fill in for him, I can write posts days ahead of when they will post (as is the case with this one).

I am also "comment adverse" meaning that I usually don't bother reading comments.  In fact, if moderation were on, no comments would be published during my tenure as "blogger in charge".

Very rarely do I actually read a comment (although, I do if it is something I need help on on my own blog).  but I really do tend to block people who annoy me--even if they "agree" with my point of view.  I am less concerned whether we agree or not as much as how annoying you happen to be.

He's been blogging for a few months now but this was my first look. Link P. is certainly in good company with the characters he likes to quote.

Breda's a Good Writer

Thanks to RuffRidr, I read the post that Breda wrote about me a couple weeks ago. I realize I just fell into the first trap by presuming it was about me, but most of the commenters seemed to be under that impression except Sebastian, who thought it was about Jadegold.

In this fairly slick essay, by referring to me and gun control bloggers in general as "trolls," she simply reversed the roles of pro-gun and gun-control writers by saying, for example, that "the majority of the time the ugliness is started by trolls."  That's really not been my experience. Another example is this: "They want a chance to call people names and be nasty to complete strangers." Does anyone who reads the gun blogs really think that applies to the gun control advocates and not the, as Breda herself said, very passionate gun bloggers?

The thrust of her post was that "I (they) want attention."  Her advice is to ignore us, but it was offered in a silly imitation of Fight Club.

By far the most interesting part was the comments. .Not one of the 35-plus commenters said, "I don't think Mike is a troll, he's just wrong. But he's got a right to his opinion just like everybody else."   Not one of them said, "Maybe this "troll" label applies to gun-control bloggers in general, but not Mikeb.  He's the one that Linoge wrote about at great length warning us that guys like Mike are dangerous because they're trying to take our rights away."  Linoge isn't the only one who has called for a united effort to fight against this "danger." That doesn't sound like a troll who just wants attention.

Some of the commenters, I suppose, desperately want Breda's approval.  There seems to be a good following of them on her blog.  Others tend to support each other against any gun control writer regardless of who's right or wrong.  What I don't believe is that any one of them really thinks I'm a troll.  They just think I'm the enemy and this is the latest battle cry.

Speaking of the comments, the one left by RuffRidr was interesting. Speaking to Breda he said, "...he really seems to concentrate his blog posts on you for some reason."  Twice he's said as much to me.  I don't know what he's trying to do, but anyone who reads the blogs can tell you I've written much more about Bob S., Weer'd Beard and Linoge.  And as usual, his insinuation kinda flips around the fact that Breda is the one who has a problem with me.  The reason is because I dared to challenge her on a couple videos she posted last year, one in which she demonstrated her lack of proficiency with a rifle, the other in which she broke at least one of the Four Rules.  More recently, the one I guess she was referring to in this post, "It has recently come to my attention that certain trolls have been writing about me," I suppose she didn't like my challenging her for posting about drinking beer on her gun blog which in my opinion is extremely irresponsible. She and her fans didn't like my pointing it out.

A New Favorite Site

I'd like to add to what Jadegold said the other day, The Foggy Bottom Line is a wonderful site.  I was especially convinced when I read the wonderful, but not comprehensive by a long shot, run down of some of the pro gun blogs we all know and love.

What's your opinion? Don't you find it interesting and refreshing to read someone's opinion of these blogs who's new to them, someone who has not yet become inured to the incessant barrage of insults and attacks?  I certainly do.

Weer’d Beard comes by the comment thread on this post just to say I’m full of shit without apparently reading my comment at Pandagon.

Bob S. makes a very good point about deleting comments but cannot resist the urge to infantilize and demean with epithets like “sparky” and “troll” when referring to those he disagrees with.  At least Bob makes effort to rebut a claim while he is being insulting.

Another New Favorite Blog

Robert Farago runs a pro-gun blog with a difference. On The Truth About Guns, you're liable to read such things as The Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day, complete with video proof and commentary, and most impressive of all, official retractions when proven to have been wrong.

I realize these blogging standards are unusual across the board, but I find them especially noteworthy in the gun rights world.

Call the Orkin Man

I found this video on the wonderful site called Urantian Sojourn. The post was all about lies and keeping pests out. I dedicate it to Weer'd Beard. But please realize this is not me talking to him, it's the other way around.

Public Liars— and the stinking lies they tell— must be met with the full force of righteous indignation, public exposure, and condemnation of the full extent of their moral hypocrisy. And always— when appropriate— prosecution and even extermination— to the full extent of our laws as a people and as a nation. True reality deserves nothing less.

Do You Twitter?

I've been hearing about Twitter for a couple months now. Finally I decided to look into it and after reading this article, signed up.

Bye-bye blogs: The net's cool kids are all on Twitter now -- and they use it for everything.

I never really wanted to be one of the "cool kids," at least not for the last thirty years or so, but this thing really is cool. For starters, it's the simplest sign-up procedure I've ever done on the internet. How it might fit in with blogging remains to be seen; although I find many blogs too lengthy for my rather limited attention span, the 140 character limit on Twitter seems a bit extreme. Maybe the two, blogging and twittering can go together.

Do any of you have experience with Twitter?

Blog Hiatus - One Week

I'm going away tomorrow on family business which will take me to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It's not that I don't expect to find a good internet connection there, that's a joke because what we have to put up with here in Italy is awful, it's just that I expect to be busy with family and friends.
