Wesley Snipes - Tax Evasion

It's Florida again.  They don't only have screwed up practices as far as gun laws go, but other things as well.

Actor Wesley Snipes was ordered on Friday to start serving a three-year prison sentence for failing to file income tax returns by a federal judge who rejected the Hollywood star's bid for a new trial.

"The defendant Snipes had a fair trial ... The time has come for the judgment to be enforced," U.S. District Judge Terrell Hodges said in his ruling.

Revoking bail for the 48-year-old star of the "Blade" trilogy, the judge ordered him to report to prison as directed by the U.S. Marshals Service or Bureau of Prisons.
I'm sure it was a fair trial, it's the sentencing guidelines I have a problem with. Prison should be reserved for violent criminals not white-collar tax evaders.

I agree, but your second biggest cheerleader, Laci the Chinese Crested, does his best to ensure violent criminals don't go to prison or at least get reduced terms.

I thought you wanted to make felons out of paperwork violators and those that were victims of theft? Why the sudden change of heart?

  3. FWM, I do want stronger sanctions against gun offenders, even the non violent kind. I want this not to send them to prison, but to disqualify them from owning guns in the future.

The way it is now, some violent misdemeanor guys can do a little time, get out and legally buy guns. And, some white-collar fraudsters can get felony probation and be prohibited from owning guns.

My one-strike-you're-out idea is not about going to prison but about disqualifying them from owning guns.
