What's your opinion? Is there any question that these measures would prevent gun deaths? Don't you think it's time that even the gun-rights people got behind these initiatives?Sponsored by Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), the proposal would prevent recently unlicensed gun dealers from selling their stock fire-sale-style without first performing background checks on the buyers.
It's not the only gun-law loophole Democrats are targeting in the wake of Saturday's shootings. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) this week said the shooting is clear indication that Congress should close the so-called "gun-show loophole” as well. That's a reference to the hobbyists and other unlicensed gun sellers who have no obligation to perform background checks at gun shows or other venues.
That loophole, Quigley said Tuesday, makes the screening process required by licensed dealers all but futile.
"Whatever rules are on the books aren't enforced if there's a gun-show loophole," Quigley said in a phone interview.

Did the shooter purchase a weapon through this gun show "loophole?" If not, then how is this incident an example of why that should be closed?

ReplyDeleteWhy would now be that time? Has it become time for "gun-rights people" to abandon all honor and nobility, betray the Constitution, and join with the forces of tyranny?
Nope.
You have your answer.
Jim,
ReplyDeleteBecause anti's define a loophole as anytime someone uses or breaks a law they do not like rather it is related to the matter at hand or not.
In their world, since both the Arizona and Virginia Tech nutcases purchased with a Brady check and received the FBI's approval, you must stop private purchases.
Don't worry if you cannot follow their logic because there is no logic in their world. If they were logical, they wouldn't be for gun control after all.
Jim, The AZ incident has nothing to do with either of these so called "loopholes." My point was instead of worrying about the magazine capacity or the 1000-foot perimiter, this is what we should focus on.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Because it has nothing to do with the Tucson incident.
Will the Jared Loughners in Ackerman's and Quigley's districts please come forward (and don't use a Europussy caliber like 9mm, or expect one round to do the job, or in Ackerman's and Quigley's cases, think of them as having vital organs in their craniums)?
