Sarah Palin on the Shooting

Sarah Palin: "America's Enduring Strength" from Sarah Palin on Vimeo.

I agree that each person is responsible for his or her actions. Loughner is responsible for what he did and Palin is responsible for what she did. Loughner killed and wounded people with a gun. Palin delivered tremendous amounts of inciteful rhetoric which she knew damn well could push some of these numbskulls over the edge.

Both are guilty,

  1. Mike - has anyone shown that the shooter ever heard or read something Palin published or spoke out about? Is it just magical that rhetoric makes people do things even if they are never exposed to such rhetoric?

And if it comes out that instead he heard President Obama say "if they bring a knife we will bring a gun..." does that make Obama responsible for this shooting?

  2. Any public figure who doesn't take responsibility for their comments is a fool. Using crosshairs on maps and making statements like "Don't retreat - RELOAD!" are clearly going to incite violence in the minds of unbalanced gun nuts. She needs to fess up to this reality. She can start by apologizing, then finally take down that "crosshairs map" still on her Facebook page.

  3. Jim, Instead of using common sense and being honest about it, you demand proof.

No, no one that I know of has shown that the shooter ever heard or read any of the inciteful remarks.

How likely do you think it is that he never heard that stuff?

  4. mike - in this particular case, common sense would tell me to ask the guy why he did it before assuming what his motive was. Does that sound reasonable to you?

  5. "How likely do you think it is that he never heard that stuff?"

Very likely. I like Palin. I heard her speak at the NRA convention in Charlotte last year. I am a gun loon. And I will swear to you all that I never, never saw that crosshair map graphic until it was posted on this site the day of the shooting.

All indications so far is that nutcase was not affiliated with any political party and that he wasn't even interested enough in the last election to vote in it.

As bad as you and the media wanted it to be a tea party following Beck-Palin fanatic that did these things, sorry. He was just your garden variety commie psycho nut job.

  6. From Good Morning America:

Ashleigh Banfield: "What was his motive in Saturday's attack and what about the speculation that he may have been fueled by partisan politics and rhetoric in the media?"

OSLER (friend of the shooter): He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn't listen to political radio. He didn't take sides. He wasn't on the left; he wasn't on the right.

Now granted this is not first hand from the suspect in question, but it is someone who actually knows this person and has been around him.

  7. FWM, I think you've got a point. He was just a nut. But that doesn't mean putting crosshairs on someone is a good thing to do.
