One of the worst combinations out there is alcohol and guns. Irresponsible bloggers like to mix them. It's bad news.Dogfish Head's seasonal brew "Aprihop" starts hitting store shelves this month. This is one of their beers I've yet to try. I'll have to remedy that. This is afterall my "year of the beer" per one of my New Year's resolutions.

I'd imagine it doesn't take more than half a beer to get Mike W. reenacting the "You talking to me?" scene from "Taxi Driver."
ReplyDeleteThat said, the Dogfish Head 90 min. IPA is a National Treasure.
As others have said before, guns and alcohol don't mix. The guns always precipitate out no matter how much you muddle them.
ReplyDeleteI think that with the use of either, comes great responsibility. But I don't see anything wrong with 'Pushing beer on a Gun Blog'. After all, what is more American that Guns, Beer, and Apple Pie!?
ReplyDelete"Guns and alcohol don't mix" is a somewhat misleading oversimplification of the issue.
ReplyDeleteIt's handling guns WHILE IMPAIRED because of alcohol (or other drugs) that is the actual problem.
There's nothing wrong with a gun owner drinking, or even getting drunk, as long as he's not handling guns, is there?

ReplyDeleteholy shit! Someone preserve this moment! Jadegold actually said something intelligent!
Well at least he's not doing drugs. But seriously Mike, you're reaching here, just a bit.
ReplyDeleteSo a gun owner can not like beer, or any form of alcohol?
ReplyDeleteAnd where exactly does he say next time youre out hunting or at the range, you HAVE to do it hammered to the gills? Where is there any suggesting of combining the two?
Have you EVER had a glass of wine then driven home from dinner? Do you ever drive home from the liquor store with a bottle or two in the car? Why then, your no worse than he according to your judgment.
Not reaching at all, MAgunner. Guns and alcohol don't mix, period. As gun owners, the further you deviate from total abstemiousness, the more dangerous and irresponsible you become.
ReplyDeleteGuys who drink a beer or two, in most cases could continue to be fine, but some people can't even handle that small amount without becoming impaired.
Posting about the pleasures of drinking on a gun blog is sending the wrong message.
@Mikeb, You're entitled to your opinion, even if it's in the tiny minority.

ReplyDeleteSure, you think that way, Orygunner, because you're not a bonehead. Our gracious blog host, on the other hand, thinks that blogging about both guns and beer--even in separate posts--is "mixing guns and alcohol."
He has not, as far as I'm aware, ever provided a close to adequate explanation for that bizarre contention.
Zorroy, You've been reading my blog. You remember the Maine boys recently and countless others who did their gun mismanagement while drinking. That's the connection. All the easy-going attitudes towards drinking while armed encourage those young whippersnappers who don't have too much sense to begin with. It's for the children, the gun owning children.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling you I haven't seen that video, because something about the way I have my browser configured doesn't play nice with most videos embedded here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still don't see how blogging about both guns and alcohol is "mixing alcohol and guns."
