San Diego Domestic Gun Murder

Guns continue to be bad news for women, this time in San Diego.

New details emerged on Sunday about an 83-year-old man accused of shooting his 57-year-old wife in broad daylight in the Gaslamp Quarter.

The shooting happened on the northwest corner of 5th Avenue and Broadway around 2:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Police said the man got into an argument with his wife, pulled out a gun and shot her twice, striking her in the head and arm, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said, adding that she was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.

  1. A woman is shot by a criminal that failed to obey the Brady super state's gun laws. More gun control fail.

  2. Phillip Thompson told 10News on Saturday he was giving a customer a tattoo across the street when the shooting happened. "Heard the shots fired, ripped my gloves off, ran outside and saw the gentleman standing there over the body," said Thompson… Thompson told 10News the shooting doesn't come as much of a surprise. "We're at Fifth and Broadway. It's the dirtiest, nastiest block and we're on Broadway and it doesn't surprise me,” he said.

I can't believe the news would quote a crank like that idiot tattoo artist. Every major city has murders from time to time. I went to school for two years about a half a mile away. I used to go down there in the seventies when it was all pool halls, pinball arcades and peepshows. I had Navy buddies. We'd go down there all night long. I took my wife and daughter down there at night. I take my wife to clubs all the time. We ride the trolley so we can get wasted. The courthouses are nearby as well as the central library. Thousands of people pound that pavement every day and every night. That's just some asshole trying to get on television.

I guess the dirty and nasty element like to go into his tattoo parlor.

  3. I can't agree with you FATWHITEMAN. Sure a lot of guys are going to carry guns around no matter what. But if it was legal to do so, that would radically transform the dynamics of the city. I don't know which would be the bigger problem, the resultant increase in gun violence or the incredible amount of danger it would add to the jobs of our police men and women.

  4. I was stationed in San Diego for six months in the winter of 1970-71. It was my first love affair with California. It saddens me that such a beautiful city has its share of gun violence too.

As Flying Junior said, it would only be worse without the California gun laws.
