Something You Don't See Every Day - A Mass Stabbing Attack

Three people were in critical condition and one in stable condition after a stabbing incident Wednesday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio, that ended with the suspect being shot by police, Columbus authorities said.

The attack began inside a downtown building that houses Miami-Jacobs Career College, said Columbus Police Sgt. Rich Weiner.

The stabbing victims in critical condition underwent surgery at Grant Medical Center, while the one with less serious injuries was taken to Mount Carmel West hospital, officials said. The suspect was in critical condition at Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center, Weiner said.
The rarity of this type of incident should be enough to highlight what a terrible blight guns are on our society.

What do you think?

  1. I was wondering if you'd write about this incident. What it shows is that bad things will happen, and the tool being used isn't fundamental to that fact.

    1. It shows nothing of the kind. Its extreme rarity tells us all tools are not equal, some are more equal than others.

    3. Stabbings are anything but a rarity. They happen all the time. They are much more frequent around here than shootings. They just don't get as much press coverage.

Yeah, but it was a gun that stopped the Mass Stabbing with the THREE assault knives.

  3. "For centuries, individuals have used knives as both a primary or secondary weapon. There should be no doubt that knives can and have been effective killing instruments. Perhaps the best-known murders by edged weapons in America today were the multiple Airline pilots and stewardesses on September 11th 2001. Passenger witnesses able to call out on cell phones described their murder weapons as “Box cutters”. These edged weapon murderers led the way to the murder of almost 3,000 innocent people."

Nice bit of fallacious arguing, that.

FBI crime reports indicate that about 68% of all homicides were committed with firearms (the vast majority of those homicides were committed with handguns). Knives and other cutting weapons accounted for about 18%. It is tragic that so many people are murdered with knives and other edged weapons. Wny, knives are responsible for over 28% as many murders as handguns are. Everybody should have their knives and other cutting weapons taken away from them because they're as BAD AS TEH GUNZ. Oh, wait, that's right, there are over 300M guns in this country if the best information available is correct. Otoh, there are billions of knives in this country. I own at least 40 or 50 knifes of all sorts (but I don't got noneathem cool "combat knives" that all the gunzloonz favor). My 84 yo neighbor has about 20 or so--and she knows how to use them. Oddly, there aren't many stabbing deaths around here, despite that fact that we are armed to the teeth with the damned things. It's a puzzler.

    1. Democommie, you neglected to give the citation for your source, but your blithering does support our side. There are lots of guns and lots of knives in this country, and yet, precious few of them ever are used in committing a crime. If weapons had the magic power to make people do bad things, we'd all be dead.

You're right in one thing: It's a puzzler.
