Fact of the day

From the same group that one proposed gun control laws and had a president who said “I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons...I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.”

In 1975, the NRA published a Fact Book on Firearms Control that endorsed “reasonable regulation” such as a “waiting period between purchase and delivery,” recordkeeping requirements for “manufacturers, importers, dealers and pawnbrokers,” laws that “control all machine guns and destructive devices,” and the enforcement of “reasonable conditions” for those “wishing to carry a concealed firearm.”

  1. Fact of the day part II - up until 1863 slavery was legal in America. As some Democrats today might say - "it was the law of the land and should not be changed"

Just because an organization had views one way does that mean they should never ever be changed?

    1. Why the change? Crime is at historic lows.

    2. Crime is at historic lows while the number of firearms in the society is at historic highs. Hmm something seems to be connected here, I just am not sure what...

    4. The point, Anonymous, is that fewer people are getting killed.

    5. Not by guns dip shit.
Gun shot deaths are about to take over the number of car accident deaths. And you keep cheering for it.

    6. Pay attention: Rates of murder are going down. Whatever the method being used, the rate is on the decline.

    7. Bullshit. Where are your facts? Where is your URL that proves what you are saying? You don't really expect us to take you at your word after you have been proven to be a lying criminal coward over and over again?

◾The rate of homicides involving a firearm decreased by 49% from 1992 to 2011, while the percentage of homicide victims killed by a firearm (67%) remained stable.

◾Large cities of 100,000 or more residents experienced the largest decline (23%) in homicide rates from 2002 to 2011, compared to communities with less than 100,000 residents.

  2. With the exception of waiting periods, the NRA hasn't altered its stance on any of those other issues in your claim.

    1. Today the NRA policy is to have armed security in schools. That's not in the 1970's handbook.

      Delete
    2. So then it's not a change. It wasn't in the handbook at all. The handbook didn't say schools should be "gun free zone", did it?

    3. Right, adding a new policy, is not a change. WOW, no wonder you fir in with idiots like Ted Nugent.

    4. TS, are you saying the NRA has NOT changed its position on anything but waiting periods? What about background checks, for one?

  3. Many things change over time. As has been noted, a ways back, the NRA was cool with what were called reasonable restrictions. Then, the government and antigun groups started getting much more aggressive in their treatment of gun owners.
Restrictions on the ATF were enacted due to their abusive treatment of gun dealers. Shall issue permit systems were enacted as a reaction to the abuse of discretionary permit systems.
Gun control groups have also changed. Many have renamed themselves to give themselves a more reasonable look, yet the leadership remained basically unchanged. For example, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence was previously called The National Coalition to Ban Handguns.
Gun control groups have even hired a marketing firm to help develop a document that helps gun control advocates better sell their side. So it isn't exactly a one sided argument.

  4. Unlike you, Laci, I don't worship organizations. I respect them and participate in them only to the degree that they aid in achieving what I want. The NRA was wrong in the past about many things, but it has improved over the years.

    4. No, the question is, what is your leader Ted Nugent blathering about?
He spews racism as you spew Jew hate and anarchy. Interesting you give him money to spew his racism.
