Quote of the Day from Malala Yousafzai

In case you don't know who Malala Yousafzai is, she is the young woman who was shot by the Taliban for protesting a ban on female education.  She lives in the Swat District of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.  That is a place that has a similar attitude toward the "right to bear arms" that the gun loons profess.

She made this comment at Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year Awards.

Nothing like living under the gun.

If that's your idea of freedom--I'll take the alternative.

"Pakistani women face atrocities like rape, acid throwing, honour killings, forced marriages, forced prostitution and the buying and selling of women. The past few years have been witness to a steep increase in such crimes."

  2. Pakistan actually has a lower rate of gun ownership than Mexico, Italy, and Australia.

They also seem to have a number of the type of gun laws that gun control advocates would like to enact here,

"In Pakistan, private possession of fully automatic, semi-automatic and handguns (pistols and revolvers) is permitted under license. Only licensed gun owners may lawfully acquire, possess or transfer a firearm or ammunition."

"In Pakistan, the law requires that a record of the acquisition, possession and transfer of each privately held firearm be retained in an official register."

"In Pakistan, a unique identifying mark on each firearm is required by law. State authorities do carry out recognized arms tracing and tracking procedures but state authorities do not employ ballistic fingerprinting technology to trace guns and ammunition"

"In Pakistan, private guns are prohibited in educational institutions, hostels or boarding and lodging houses, fairs, gatherings or processions of a political, religious, ceremonial or sectarian character, and on the premises of Courts of law or public offices."

"In Pakistan, the maximum penalty for illicit possession of firearms is 7 years
    prison."

And with all of these common sense gun laws in place, the homicide rate in Pakistan is 7.8 per 100k, as opposed to the United States with a rate of 4.7 per 100k.

As is often the case, there seems to be other factors affecting gun violence other than firearms law or the number of guns.

    2. Ah, the person who never backs up his data, is now picky about a cite? If you don't like Wiki, then feel free to look this source over. It says the same thing.
