Guns save lives?

My usual sarcastic comment would be to say she bought the gun to protect her family.  Of course, we all know, deep down, that a gun in the home is more likely to kill a family member than an intruder.

Unfortunately, despite the repeated lie that "guns save lives" we have the second incident where a mother kills her family:
A Utah mom described by pals as positive and caring shot and killed her two young daughters before turning the gun on herself the same day her fiance packed up his belongings and moved out of her house, authorities said.
Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, killed her pretty blonde daughters, Kenadee Oliva, 13, and Isabella Oliva, 7, Tuesday evening in their home in Syracuse, a town on the Great Salt Lake about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.

As I said, she probably got the gun to protect her family.

Too bad this is yet another case where the person the family needed protection from was another family member.

As I said on Facebook:  The pro-gun myths should backfire when people realise more guns don't make them safer. Unfortunately, that happens on a case by case basis, not the massive scale necessary for change.

  1. Laci, your argument only works, sort of, on a case-by-case basis. When we look at the data as a whole, your claim fails. You will always be able to find examples of people going wrong, no matter what tool or method is considered, but you have to look at the many times that people do the right thing, too.

  2. Stats tell us a gun in the home means danger for the people living in the home.

    3. Anonymous,

A dog in the home means danger for the people living in the home. Do you have a dog? A pool in the backyard means danger for the people living in the home and for the people in the neighborhood. Do you have a pool? A dishwasher in the home means danger for the people living the home. (Dishwashers have caused house fires.) Do you have a dishwasher? A natural gas furnace means danger for the people living in a home. (Natural gas and carbon monoxide leaks have killed people.) Do you have a natural gas furnace? Less than 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week means danger for the people who fail to exercise. Do you exercise for at least 30 minutes at least three times a week?

Life is a journey of countless risks and benefits. It is up to each person to evaluate the risks and benefits in their lives and choose how to live. Anyone who would dictate our choices for us is a monster. While you may not have the courage to evaluate the risks in your life, others do and want to choose for themselves. People who want to own and possess firearms are not telling you how to live your life. Don't tell them how to live their lives.

Right, lets compare guns to a dog. HA HA HA HA HA HA

Thanks for proving what a raving lunatic you are. Just like your lying criminal coward buddies TS, SS, and of course the site lying criminal coward ass hole.
      Thanks for the laugh.

    5. Anonymous,

I am not changing the subject at all. I illustrated that basically everything in our lives carries a risk, including firearms. Do you deny that you have or do anything that carries risk in your life? If you say no, you are a baldfaced liar. If you say yes, then you are a hypocrite for telling others what risk they should or should not carry in their lives.

    7. This is the thing about gun control freaks. They have to single out guns as the one and only danger in life. It's their obsession. They become infuriated that we don't share their fears and fixations. That's the root of their foul language and cowardly accusations here.

But it's good that they act this way. They more they behave like this, the more people can see their true natures.

    8. There are plenty of other objects and or behaviours for which many progressives would laud their prohibition from the common denizen. From the Volstead Act, to the outlawry of the sex trade, to the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, we have a century of experience in the legislation of (total) conformity, giving you the gift of the freedom to live in a country where you are not allowed to use in drugs or other objectionable vice.

    17. How cute, but remember a gun is the only one made to kill.
An ice pick is not made to kill and there are few ice pick killings, even though an ice pick is a very good weapon to kill with. The weapon of choice for killing, is a gun. So mention all the straw men you want, it only proves your points are false. But being proven lying criminal cowards, we already knew that about you.

    18. If you use a gun, you are not saving a life. If a crook is dead, you did not save a life. If an innocent is dead, you just killed someone. No matter what, guns do not save lives. It's not a guns purpose to save a life. It's a guns purpose to kill.

    19. Anon,

We must whey who is killed with whom may be allowed protection to save themselves. Hence the need for prohibitive statutes to address the problem of an armed populace.

  3. A 31-year-old Chester resident was pronounced dead early Sunday at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, and a 22-year-old Marcus Hook resident was listed in serious condition late Sunday morning said Chester Detective James Nolan.

“It appears the deceased attempted to rob the other male and lost the gunfight,” said Nolan.
He said the Marcus Hook resident was licensed to carry a firearm. The identities of both men were being withheld by authorities late Sunday morning pending identification of next of kin."

  4. Laci,

You obviously fail to realize that the mother could just as easily have killed her daughters without a firearm. She has lived with her daughters her entire life. Her daughters trust her. They sleep in the same home. The mother could just as easily have poisoned her daughters. She could have bashed their skulls with an axe when they were sleeping in bed. Or, she could have loaded them into the family car and driven into the pillars of a highway overpass at 100 mph.

This is a horrible tragedy and there is no possible way that anyone could have prevented it. As painful as such tragedies are, they happen in the real world. And yet it could be worse. Imagine the horror a mom would experience who was forced to watch a scumbag rape her daughter ... forced to watch and unable to stop it because people like you forcibly disarmed that mother. I cannot imagine sinking any lower. How can you live with yourself?

People like me, on the other hand, are working to make sure that no parent ever has to experience the horror of being forced to watch a scumbag rape or murder their daughters or wives. That is why so many people are joining my side.

    1. The objective is to proscribe individual liberty to the edges of observable existence. Guns are simply the most convenient (and potentially threatening) target at this time.

    2. Yes, that has worked out so well for everyone.... There is a shining example of that just north of the 38th parallel in Korea. Though instead of Reagan to represent the United States, for North Korea, we get Dennis Rodman.

  5. I've decided that due to Anon's/Steve's/whoever's multiple identity issue, I'm going to take a time out from all Anons and Steve. I think I'm going to start with a weekend and see how I feel on Monday.
His cackling hurts my ears, and I think it was TS that commented that its like talking to a five year old. That made me think because I use the same logic with my teenage son when he argues with his six year old sister. I always ask him what he hopes to accomplish by arguing with a six year old. Thank you TS.
I want to apologize in advance to the at least one Anon that I know that actually makes adult comments. Maybe we can talk come Monday.
Mike, sorry if this makes me a poor guest, but its getting old.

The obvious point was to show your thinking is as criminal as Greg's thinking and the point was made. Now you childishly post this reply on multiple threads. Point made again. Sorry, Steve is correct about you liars.
