Four accidental shootings this week, y’all! Plus, waaaay too many high school boys bringing guns to school. What the hell is up with that, anyway?
If that's a typical week in only one gun-lovin' state, it seems to me something's wrong with the stats we keep hearing about how few accidental shootings there are each year. Maybe one of our math masters can help explain this apparent conundrum.
Even if we double the accepted numbers, it still seems off.
What do you think?
According to reports from the CDC and others, there are around 600 accidental firearms deaths per annum. There are naturally some number more of injuries. But those events don't happen on schedule. Some weeks may have none, while other weeks will have several.
ReplyDeleteSome weeks may have none? Not according to the news reports. If gun violence is so low, then you just proved there is no need for anyone to carry a gun.
DeleteAlso, to add to Greg's comment, CDC data also shows that firearm injury rates have been declining over the last decade, as have accidental deaths and homicides.
ReplyDeleteWhere are your URL's boys? You don't really expect us to take your word for it after you have been proven to be liars?
ReplyDeleteNo response from the cowards, as usual.
DeleteIt's not a "typical week". That's what makes it news.
ReplyDeleteUm, no:
ReplyDeleteTraffic deaths have dropped 22% since 2005, while shooting deaths — including suicides and accidents — have crept up from historic lows a decade ago, the numbers show.
In 2010, 31,328 people died by killer weapons, up from 28,393 in 2000. And in three years, Centers for Disease Control numbers forecast nearly 33,000 shooting deaths, compared to 32,000 traffic deaths, the report said.

I don't know why you're mentioning traffic, but remember that the population rose from some 281,000,000 in 2000 to 308,000,000 in 2010, so that modest rise in numbers of deaths is a decline in the rate.
DeleteBy the way, did we know each other when I lived in Nashville?
