What the Gun Nuts Refer to as the Free States

  1. Hi Mike, it was sort of a challenge to figure out what the graphic was supposed to show. Its actually an interactive graphic and the interactive part didn't seem to come through. Here is a link and description though.

"The interactive map below shows a state-by-state survey of 10 measures of gun violence drawn from FBI, ATF, and CDC data. The measures are aggregated to show that states with weak gun laws have higher rates of gun violence, and states with stronger gun laws have lower rates of gun violence."

But the graphic doesn't discuss what constitutes weak gun laws, so I guess everyone is just supposed to "know" what that is. If they were to try to define this though I'm thinking the first contradiction would be Vermont. Vermont ranks 37th on gun crime in the graphic you provided and also ranks 44th on the Brady's ranking. Which means they have both weak gun laws and low crime.

  2. Once again, it's "gun violence," not overall violence, but also, look at all the green states with good gun laws--Washington, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, for examples.

    1. Your hillbilly state is in bright red, I noticed that. You should be proud.

    2. Again with the slurs, instead of answers. Mikeb, are you capable of addressing a point?

    3. Address this question. You said revenge is justice, explain how revenge is justice?

  3. “Gun deaths”.

It’s always “gun deaths” when your side makes a map like this. Didn’t you say that’s dishonest, Mike? And you’ve also said state level gun control doesn’t work because borders are open between states. So you don’t really believe there is this kind of definition anyway when talking about a meaningful measure like violent crime or murder.

    1. This map is what it is, TS. If it were trying to call itself "murders by state" then it would be dishonest. Where do you live, by the way? Have you told us?

    2. Uhhhh, look at the flag...he's said before that he's from there...

    3. Seriously, Mikeb? If the flag in his avatar isn't enough, how about you sharpen that memory of yours?

    4. California, Mike- A state that is worse than average in murder rate and violent crime rate, and on par with Arizona (not evident by this map).

Don’t you remember how we recently talked about my avatar being the California state flag without the bear arms? Hey, if Peruta goes through I’ll have to put those arms back on.

    5. Yeah, that was a dumb question. I remember now.

  4. Gun deaths is a useless metric. The only relevant statistic is firearm homicide

  5. Give me Arizona's gun laws, and I'd be happy to risk 10 times the state's "gun death" rate.
