About 1,000 gun-rights advocates, many openly carrying rifles and handguns, rallied Saturday outside the Capitol to protest a new expanded gun background check law in Washington state.
Organizers of the "I Will Not Comply" rally promised to exchange and sell firearms without conducting background checks during the daylong rally in opposition to the state's voter-approved universal background check law.
"We're going to stand up for our rights," rally organizer Gavin Seim said. "Our rights are not up for negotiation."
Initiative 594 passed with 59 percent of the vote last month. Geoff Potter, who served as a spokesman for the pro-initiative campaign, said that the rally was "a very loud, but very, very narrow and unrepresentative view of what the people of Washington have clearly demonstrated they want on background checks and gun laws."
Gun loons are criminals and will not follow the law. As expressed many times by the gun loons on this site.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to learn of your disappointment, Mikeb. I am quite pleased with yesterday's display of defiance of evil. Mr. Vanderboegh, as always, was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteOf course the criminal supports criminals.
Delete"Of course the criminal supports criminals."
DeleteAnon, this is a wonderful example of peaceful civil disobedience. Giving advance notice and doing it peacefully in a public forum also shows their willingness, to be jailed for their beliefs.
It illustrates the lack of knowledge of whoever wrote the law.
Again, we see the not-so-law-abiding citizens violating laws they don't like. Silly fat white men.
DeleteWell, MikeB seemingly endorses breaking this law. He keeps telling us no one will be arrested for these innocuous transfer crimes so we should stop whining about the law and go about business as usual.
DeleteTS, I don't know where you get the idea that I endorse this? My position on the museum was that no judge would have considered them in violation. These clowns are a different story. If we're lucky you'll finally be able to answer my challenge to let us know when someone goes to jail over these laws.
DeleteKurt, your link doesn't seem to work, not that I'm especially anxious to see what your fat, hypocritical, criminal mentor has to say.
Delete. . . I'm especially anxious to see what your fat, hypocritical, criminal mentor has to say.
DeleteAs it turns out, I don't have one of those.
"Anon, this is a wonderful example of peaceful civil disobedience."
DeleteWhich didn't attract more people than wait in line on Black Friday to buy bed sheets. What a laugh.
MikeB: "These clowns are a different story. If we're lucky you'll finally be able to answer my challenge to let us know when someone goes to jail over these laws."
DeleteSee what I mean? These two sentences are directly contradictory. Are they law breakers, or is no one ever going to jail by doing this?
"Which didn't attract more people than wait in line on Black Friday to buy bed sheets. "
DeleteConsidering that the protestors were risking being arrested for a felony, that isn't surprising. However, they do seem to do better than the events run by the MOMs. And as I said, quite peaceful. Much more so than some of the other protests we've been seeing lately.
What's contradictory, TS, is the position I took on the museum and what these idiot demonstrators are doing.
Delete. . these idiot demonstrators are doing.
DeleteWhat "these idiot demonstrators are doing" is the equivalent of (sing it, Steve) "♫ marching into Selma, as the bells of freedom ring ♫."
It's a ludicrous and totally misleading comparison: gun rights and civil rights.
DeleteThe right to keep and bear arms is a civil right--the one, indeed, that shall not be infringed, according to what is supposed to be the Law of the Land.
DeleteOf course that's not the point is it master liar? The point is where is this overwhelming movement by pro gun loons you keep claiming? On to your next diversion SS.....
Delete"The point is where is this overwhelming movement by pro gun loons you keep claiming?"
DeleteIts all around you Anon. You can see it in the growth in gun ownership that's been discussed here when Mike posted the most recent Gallup poll results on that.
You can see it in the fact that now a majority of citizens rank gun rights over gun control as we've also discussed here when we discussed that poll also.
And you can see it in the growth of states recognizing a citizen's right to carry a firearm for self defense. And in the growing involvement of youth in the shooting sports that I've cited in other discussions.
You can choose to ignore the evidence, but that doesn't change the existence of it.
Now there's an interesting and ironical twist. The Gallup poll said more people favor gun rights but the VOTE in Washington said something different.
DeleteThere is that pesky fact with SS's argument again, the vote doesn't mmatch what he says. The fact that these people are willing to become felons only proves they are criminals.
Delete"The Gallup poll said more people favor gun rights but the VOTE in Washington said something different."
DeleteYes, it is Mike. As I've said before, a full up vote on an individual issue is more accurate than any poll. It will be interesting to see how this complicated law is put into practice.
As for the Gallup poll, the discrepency is likely casued by whatever method used to get input from all parts of the country.
"As for the Gallup poll, the discrepency is likely casued by whatever method used to get input from all parts of the country."
Delete"Likely?" Just another poor excuse to try and refute the findings of Gallup. One day you agree with Gallup, the next day you don't. Did their fact gathering procedures change from one survey to another? The only reason your characterization changes, is because the survey in one instance refutes your gun loon position.
No Anon, I was mentioning that what are likely regional differences are likely the reason the Gallup poll doesn't match the state initiative results.
DeleteMike is fond of bringing up regional differences, especially those between the north and south. Try reading those and you might understand the context.
Regional differences aside, you still ONLY side with these facts when they are in your gun loon favor, otherwise you claim the facts are wrong. That's not possible without your biased slant, not because the facts are slanted.
DeleteWhat's the deal? Has Washington state disbanded its legislature? Legislation is no longer made by elected representatives?
ReplyDeleteorlin sellers.
The antis would be pleased as punch if they could get 1000 people to turn out for a protest, but they can't.
ReplyDeleteThe Brady bunch can't even get a dozen people to show up for their nonsense.

Kroger's new meeting location didn't allow open carry or any firearms at all. Nearly 60 Moms members from across the country showed up at Kroger's annual investor relations meeting near Cincinnati."

These kill happy gun loons don't know how to legally change a law in our system and profess criminal actions instead.
ReplyDeleteWell Anon, the State Patrol seems to be publically saying it isn't illegal. Though they might be interjecting some common sense into a poorly written law. The problem being is that the poorly written law would allow law enforcement to opt to leave out the common sense and arrest.
DeleteAnd the protestors were quite willing to be arrested to make their point. That is what civil disobedience is all about. They are likely going to be working on the legislative side of things too.
"However, Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said "we're not convinced that handing someone a gun is a violation of 594."
How does this poor showing prove your contention that the country is moving toward more loose gun laws? It doesn't. No surprise you are wrong again. Next lie SS.............
Delete"How does this poor showing prove your contention that the country is moving toward more loose gun laws?"
DeleteI don't recall suggesting that in this thread Anon. And its a very good showing when held up in comparison to the MOMs event I posted here. Keep in mind that the worst that could happen to the MOMs was possibly a trespassing citation. While the much larger number at this event were risking a felony arrest.
However, here's some more proff of the assertion you thought I made here,
"States, however, have seen some action on the gun legislation front. According to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a nonprofit organization, at least 64 state laws have been passed in the last two years that strengthened gun regulations. In the same time period, at least 70 state laws have been passed that weakened regulations, and at least 38 more have passed that had “minimal impact” on regulations. "

The title of the article I cite says it all,
"Since Newtown, The Nationwide Trend Has Been Toward Weaker Gun Laws"
"I don't recall suggesting that in this thread Anon."
DeleteAnother dishonest dodge from the master liar. You have been saying that for a long time, now you want us to believe you never said it. Next lie SS.......
"Another dishonest dodge from the master liar."
DeleteNot dodging Anon, just trying to stick to the topic of the thread. I've said it often on other threads here that spoke to that issue. This one doesn't. And as you can see in the article I cited above, I'm not the only one who thinks so.
So your position changes from post to post? Figures for a lying gun loon, but I'll still use your own words to define you. Next lie SS.......
DeleteI comment based on the topic of the post Anon. it usually works best in these discussions. You should try it.
DeleteSorry master liar, I wont allow you to change such basic beliefs from post to post. You need to explain why what you say is different from one incident to another. Why are your convictions so weak? You certainly did suggest something totally different in other comments and did not deny that, you just claim this is different. How is it so different that you become a hypocrite?
