Noam Chomsky on the Government

So many pro-gun folks hate the government. Noam would say they're misled. What do you think? (via The Well-Armed Lamb)

  1. Interesting: Notice how the Koch Family, with their connections to John Birch and the Cato Institute, fund these anti-government actions.

Another aside, One factor for the British 1919 Firearms act was the fear of worker rebellion. The "Workers" have been so deceived that firearms are now a distractor as to what is running the show. The real bosses know they can deflect any anger toward them to the government.

  2. Always follow the money.

Isn't it always amazing that those entities which stand to profit the most never get the blame for anything? While organizations and institutions and various races are to blame for most everything?

    Funny how that works.

  3. I would say you've misunderstood Chomsky:

    > Chomsky asserts that power, unless justified is inherently illegitimate and that the burden of proof is on those in authority. If this burden can't be met, the authority in question should be dismantled and authority for its own sake is inherently unjustified.

    > "One of the truths about the world is that there are two superpowers, one a huge power which happens to have its boot on your neck; another, a smaller power which happens to have its boot on other people's necks. I think that anyone in the Third World would be making a grave error if they succumbed to illusions about these matters."

    > ...substances tend to be criminalized when they are associated with the so-called dangerous classes, that the criminalization of certain substances is a technique of social control.

  4. And VD quotes Wikipedia without citing to it.

While I have nothing about using Wikipedia as a start on research and for quick quotes to stuff which is pretty much taken as a given: one should use wikipedia with extreme care as Breda will tell you.
