You get that? It's because the Syrians "might actually shoot back" that NATO is afraid to intervene. Is that a riot, or what? The extreme gun fanatic, represented here by Tamara K. of the enlightened state of Indiana, but quite prevalent throughout the country, sees everything in terms of guns or the lack thereof. This narcissism, this self-absorption manifests itself in all kinds of comical ways, like in today's post. And notice how perfectly it fits into that self-aggrandizing delusion which I call the molon labe nonsense.Further, while we're taking sides in an armed revolt in Libya, the Syrians are mowing down unarmed demonstrators with impunity without a peep from NATO, because the Syrians, unlike the comic-opera Libyans, might actually shoot back.

What kind of drugs is Tam doing?
ReplyDeleteI really hate to break it to Our Lady of Meth, but in most Arab countries--Syria, included--citizens are allowed to own firearms. Some even permit ownership of automatic weapons.
Of course, what Tam doesn't understand--a fact every Syrian knows--that should demonstrators opt to shoot back, it provides the Govt. an excellent excuse to do what they really want to do, which involves mowing the demonstrators down en masse.
I'm constantly amazed by hayseeds like Tam of Crankana who believe the US is the only country where the populace own firearms.
Wow Jade, what a hateful, nasty personal attack.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, didn't you or Mike just post about how the US is different than the rest of the world because of our gun ownership? Now suddenly we are not alone.
Also, please fill us in. Is this the week that the NRA is insignificant or are they all powerful and makes our politicians do their bidding? I can't keep up on your flip flops.
FWM: I'm hurt. Really, I am.
ReplyDeleteA 'nasty personal attack?'
'Hateful?'
Where? How?
The point you missed re the "US is different than the rest of the world because of our gun ownership" is that what was being talked about was first world, industrialized nations. There are plenty of countries where everyone carries a gun and gun violence is rampant. Of course, those are countries in the third world. Here's the quote, again:
"We are singular in the world culture in our tolerance of guns.
The United States has become a kind of underdeveloped moral Third World, a place where the rest of the world can indulge its gun lust."

ReplyDeleteIs that a riot, or what? Anonymous, You can be a little more imaginative than that, can't you? Why don't you comment on the post? You too, FWM. Is there really a difference between the folks in Syria and Libia as far as civilian weapons go? Is it really possible that NATO is concerned about it? Is the Molon Labe thing really anything more than adolescent boasting?
ReplyDeleteThese are the issues raised in the post.
Boy, talk about seeing everything through monochrome lenses.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't talking about personally-owned guns anywhere there.
Read this again (you can move your mouth if it helps, Jadegold):
"Further, while we're taking sides in an armed revolt in Libya, the Syrians are mowing down unarmed demonstrators with impunity without a peep from NATO, because the Syrians, unlike the comic-opera Libyans, might actually shoot back."
Libya is having an armed revolt. NATO has intervened on the side of the rebels because it's nearby and safe and there was the threat of petrol supplies to France and Italy being disrupted, and, more importantly, the Libyan military couldn't even beat Chad for chrissake.
Syria, on the other hand, is doing the much more heinous and untelegenic crime ofopening fire on peaceful, unarmed demonstrators (something Gaddafi never did) but you're not hearing a peep from NATO because the Syrian military has actually been known to shoot even Israeli aircraft down, and won't be the punching bag that the Libyans would.
Dang, you people have guns on the brain, because you're seeing them even where they're not being talked about. Have you thought about talking to a therapist about this?
Tam hits the meth pipe: "Syria, on the other hand, is doing the much more heinous and untelegenic crime ofopening fire on peaceful, unarmed demonstrators (something Gaddafi never did) but you're not hearing a peep from NATO because the Syrian military has actually been known to shoot even Israeli aircraft down, and won't be the punching bag that the Libyans would."
ReplyDeleteGosh, if one Googles "Gaddafi fires on protestors"--here's one:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/25/AR2011022502731.html
I very well may have misunderstood Tam's intent when saying the Syrians might actually shoot back. Maybe it was her avatar that gave me the false impression that it's all about guns for her.
ReplyDeleteSo as Jade points out Gaddafi is firing on unarmed protestors as well. How does that change what is happening in Syria? Why is NATO invading one country but not the other? Why is America involved in this at all?
ReplyDeleteBingo. Why is America involved in this at all?
ReplyDeleteThis is where Obama turns into as big a disgrace as Bush. This is where we see that the supposed most powerful man in the world is nothing but a puppet.
