Accidental Shooting of New York State Man Who Tried to Blame it on Someone Else - Charges Pending

The Saratogian reports

Saratoga Springs Police Chief Christopher Cole said Thursday afternoon, however, that police do not believe a robbery ever occurred and now believe the man shot himself in the leg while attempting to put his handgun in the waistband of his pants. Cole said the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted.

Shawn Noisette of Pearl Street was apparently putting the .22-caliber handgun into the waistband of his pants when it discharged at about 2:40 a.m. Thursday. Noisette was then driven to nearby Saratoga Hospital in a private vehicle, police said.

Cole declined to comment on whether Noisette legally owns the gun that discharged, but said there “very possibly could be some charges” related to the case this week.
What's your opinion? Isn't it funny that you can shoot yourself or someone else by accident and suffer no consequences but if you try an lie to the police about it you're in trouble?

Shouldn't the negligent action that often results in injury or death be the greater offense?

  1. From the article, it appears that the charges will relate to an illegally owned gun. It happened in New York, after all.
